I am Dmitriy Kostyushkin, a UNESCO sites guide in Uzbekistan (Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva and Shahrisabz). My itinerary includes not only such world-known and popular monuments as Registan Squire and the Shah-I Zinda necropolis, but also the Afrasiab archaeological site, the traditional Tajik and Jewish quarters of the Old city, as well as the 19-century European part of Samarkand with its Russian Orthodox churches, Roman Catholic and Armenian temples, and Hebrew synagogues. Apart from the tangible heritage, I include in my itinerary the intangible heritage of the local people – the ceramic workshops, silk carpet-making and embroidery workshops, the Samarkand mulberry paper workshop and bakeries of famous Samarkand bread. Basing on the guests’ interests and wishes, it is possible to make special and author’s tours, as well as to organize the bird- and plant-watching tours in the mountains and steppes of Uzbekistan.
