About this host
Nyam is a driver and guide based in Khovd, in western Mongolia, where he has lived all his life and spent decades driving across the countryside, from city streets to mountain tracks.
He specialises in trips around his home region: day tours of Khovd, drives to Uvs, Zavkhan and Bayan-Ölgii, and custom routes into the Altai Mountains. He can arrange stays in traditional gers along the Khovd and Buyant rivers, and in summer he sometimes hosts travelers at his own riverside summer house.
Nyam drives and guides personally, using his own car, and handles the trip from airport pick-up through to custom itineraries built around what travelers want to see. He is the father of five children, and his daughters help with translation into English, French, Spanish, Korean and Mandarin, so language is rarely a problem even though Nyam himself speaks Mongolian.
He describes western Mongolia as his hometown and looks forward to showing travelers its landscapes, history and local hospitality firsthand.
I had the pleasure of being picked up by Nyma at Khovd Airport, and everything went perfectly from the start. He drove me safely to my hotel, and even after that, he took the time to show me around the Khovd area the same day — offering a brief but very insightful tour of this beautiful region, surrounded by mountains, grasslands, and creeks. He’s an excellent and highly experienced driver, and honestly one of the people I’ve felt safest with throughout all my travels across many countries. Calm, professional, and very reliable. Another huge plus is that his family supports him with translation in both Spanish and English, which makes communication much easier if you're not fluent in Mongolian. I fully recommend Nyma — he goes above and beyond, and truly made my experience in Mongolia smooth, safe, and enjoyable.
