Pavel is a certified guide based in Aktau, on Kazakhstan's Caspian coast, where he has worked for about 20 years. He personally guides, drives and cooks on his trips, usually in a Mitsubishi Pajero 4x4 fitted with a shower, fridge and 220V power for desert camping.
His routes cover the main sights of the Mangystau region: the chalk canyons and fang-like ridges of Bozzhira, Sherkala mountain, the Tuzbair salt plateau, the underground mosques of Beket-Ata and Shakpak-Ata, and the coastline around Zhana Ozen and Saura. Trips run from single days up to five days, mostly as private, custom-built itineraries rather than fixed group departures.
Overnight stops are set up as desert camps, with tents on raised steppe beds and meals he prepares himself, adjusted to each group's diet. He also puts together dedicated photo and video tours, scouting locations for photographers and arranging a second vehicle when a group needs one. On request he can add yurt camping, a telescope for stargazing, or a Turkic sound-healing session with traditional instruments.
Pavel was born and raised in Aktau and knows the history behind the sacred sites on his routes, pointing out details he says other guides tend to skip.
