Perast – Our Lady of The Rocks – Saint George island – Stoliv Perast is located in the heart of Boka Bay, at a distance of 12 km northwest of Kotor. In Perast, remains of the Neolithic culture (dating back to 3500) are found, before the new era, which speaks of its long unique history of long maritime, churches, palaces. Across the coast of Perast, near the coast, there are two beautiful islands that represent the special attraction of the city: Saint George which is natural, and the artificial island of Our Lady of the Rocks. In the immediate vicinity of The Our Lady of the Rocks, lies St. George, an island of a completely different nature and destiny. Surrounded by stone walls, and hidden from view by the high cypress canopy, this island seems to be hiding some secret and does not allow curious eyes to disturb the somewhat creepy peace of this island. Stoliv is a small quiet place in Boka Kotorska, not far from the town of Kotor. Founded in the fourteenth century, this small town is perfect for those who want to get away from the hustle of the city, enjoy the sea, the beach or fishing. It was named after the old custom of planting one hundred olive trees each guy before taking the bride to the altar. They say that during the reign of Venice, the village had a population of about 1,200 and had four shops, two oil mills and four bread bakeries. Interestingly, Stoliv has hardly changed all seven centuries since it existed.

The depth of the sea in the cave is between 3 and 4 meters, while the height from the sea level to the top of the arc is about 9m. The largest part of the island is occupied by a fortress built in the 19th century by Austro-Hungarian general Lazar Mamula. The island, during World War II served as a notorious prison known for cruelty. Rose is a small captain’s village located on the northwestern coast of the Luštica peninsula, opposite Herceg Novi. Rose is a typical Mediterranean place with family homes lined up along the dock – seafront. It was once the ancient Greek settlement called ‘Punto Roza’, which was destroyed by the Arabs, in 867. The Circuit Around Korita Biking Tour
Starts in Podgorica, Podgorica, Montenegro
Kuči is the name for the area and the tribe, one of the mountain tribes that formed the state of Montenegro in the 19th century. In the past, the inhabitants of these areas were mainly engaged in cattle breeding and living a semi-nomad lifestyle, so it is very interesting to visit this area and hear about the customs and history of this mountain tribe. It is located at a distance of Podgorica, about 30 km. The first landmark in this area is the monument to Novak Milošev. Novak Milošev Vujadinović (1835-1892) is a great Montenegrin hero, who especially distinguished himself in the battle of Fundina on August 2, 1876, when he killed 17 Turkish heads. For such courage, the Russian emperor handed him a diamond-engraved sword, which is now kept in the National Museum in Cetinje. Further on, there is the most significant fortress – the Old Town of Medun (Meteon), which is located at the 13th kilometre northeast of Podgorica and dates from the ancient period. It was built between the 4th and 3rd centuries BC, first as a fortress, later as a city. In terms of construction, there are very interesting the two lower graves in the rock on the way from the lower to the upper city. Studies point to the conclusion that in this part were performed rituals related to the serpent cult that represented mythical ancestor in Illyria. At the foot of the walls of this city and fort, lived our famous literate, military leader, tribal leader, Montenegrin Duke and hero Marko Miljanov (1833-1901). He was buried there, in the acropolis, in front of a small church. The Duke’s title was given to him by the Prince of Montenegro Nikola I Petrović. He was leader of the city for a time after the liberation of Podgorica (1878).
