Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Entebbe International Airport, Entebbe, Uganda to Entebbe, Uganda
Welcome to Uganda – Arrival in Entebbe: Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, a Nandi Adventures representative will meet and transfer you to your accommodation, a cozy boutique hotel perfect for relaxing after your journey. Depending on your arrival time, you may explore Entebbe’s attractions or simply unwind at the guesthouse.
Day 2: Entebbe, Uganda to Kasese, Uganda
Transfer to Kasese – Gateway to the Rwenzori Mountains After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Kasese, passing through rolling hills, tea plantations, and the Great Rift Valley escarpments. Stop for lunch in Fort Portal, a charming town known for its breathtaking views of the Rwenzori Mountains. Upon arrival in Kasese, check in at Sandton Hotel and prepare for the trek with a briefing from your guide.
Day 3: Kasese, Uganda to Rwenzori Mountains National Park, Uganda
Begin Trek – Hike to Sine Camp (2,596m) Your Rwenzori adventure starts today! After an early breakfast, transfer to the Rwenzori National Park Gate for registration and a safety briefing. This briefing will cover safety procedures, equipment checks, and an overview of the trek. Begin your trek through montane forests, home to colobus monkeys, chameleons, and turacos. The trail ascends gradually through moss-covered trees before reaching Sine Camp (2,596m), where you’ll stay overnight.
Day 4: Sine Camp Rwenzori Mountains, Kilembe, Uganda to Mutinda Camp, Uganda
Hike to Mutinda Camp (3,588m) The day's trek leads you through enchanting bamboo forests and heather zones, where the terrain becomes increasingly steep. The landscape transforms into an Afro-alpine wonderland, showcasing the unique flora of the Rwenzoris. You'll arrive at Mutinda Camp (3,588m), nestled amidst giant lobelias. If time and energy permit, a hike to Mutinda Lookout (3,975m) will reward you with panoramic views of the Rwenzori valleys.
Day 5: Mutinda Camp, Uganda to Bugata ampC, Uganda
Hike to Bugata Camp (4,100m) Today’s trek takes you through the surreal Afro-alpine moorland, characterized by dramatic landscapes and otherworldly flora. You’ll cross several small streams and wetlands, experiencing the raw beauty of the Rwenzori’s high-altitude environment. Day 6: Bugata ampC, Uganda to Hunwick's Camp, Uganda
Experience a thrilling day of trekking across high-altitude ridges, offering breathtaking views of Weismann’s Peak and Mount Baker. The terrain involves a slight descent before reaching Hunwicks Camp (3,974m), where you'll spend the night. This day highlights the varied terrain and scenic vistas that make the Rwenzori trek so memorable.
Day 7: Hunwick's Camp, Uganda to Rwenzori Mountains National Park, Uganda
Hike Past Lake Kitandara to Margherita Camp (4,485m) Pass Lake Kitandara, a stunning glacial lake nestled beneath towering peaks. The final stretch to Margherita Camp (4,485m) involves rocky terrain and glacier views, setting the stage for your summit attempt the next day.
Day 8: Rwenzori Mountains National Park, Uganda
Summit Margherita Peak (5,109m), Return to Hunwicks Camp Your summit day begins early, crossing the Stanley Glacier with the aid of ropes and crampons. After a challenging climb, reach the summit of Margherita Peak (5,109m), the highest point in the Rwenzori Mountains - and the 3rd highest in Africa after Kilimanjaro and Mt. Kenya. Soak in the spectacular views before descending to Hunwicks Camp (3,974m) for a well-deserved rest.
Day 9: Hunwick's Camp, Uganda to Rwenzori Mountains National Park, Uganda
Descend to Kiharo Camp (3,640m) Descend through lush alpine valleys, enjoying stunning views of the Rwenzori ridges. Arrive at Kiharo Camp (3,640m), where you can relax after days of high-altitude trekking.
Day 10: Rwenzori Mountains National Park, Uganda to Kibale National Park, Uganda
End Trek & Transfer to Kibale National Park Complete your descent to the Rwenzori Basecamp (1,450m), marking the end of your trekking adventure. After celebrating your achievement, transfer to your accommodation at a beautiful lodge near Kibale National Park, known for its primates and rich biodiversity.
Day 11: Kibale National Park, Uganda to Clarke Group Farm, Uganda
Chimpanzee Tracking & Transfer to Coffee Plantation Kibale National Park is a fondly known as the primate capital of the world - and probably the best place to observe chimpanzees in the wild. Join expert guides in Kibale for a thrilling chimpanzee tracking experience. The park is also home to 372 bird species. Watch these playful primates in their natural habitat before heading to rural coffee plantation for an overnight stay.
Day 12: Clarke Group Farm, Uganda to Entebbe International Airport, Entebbe, Uganda
Coffee & Farm Experience, Transfer to Entebbe Enjoy a hands-on coffee experience, from harvesting to roasting and tasting some of Uganda’s finest coffee. Learn about the sustainable farming practices and the journey of coffee from bean to cup. Following this enriching experience, begin your drive back to Entebbe for your departure flight, carrying with you the unforgettable memories of your Rwenzori, chimpanzee, and coffee adventure.
