Day 1: Scenic Military Highway & High-Mountain Landmarks *Zhinvali Reservoir & Ananuri Fortress Start the journey northbound with a brief pause at the turquoise Zhinvali Reservoir, framed by lush mountain slopes. *Just ahead, explore the iconic 17th-century Ananuri Fortress complex, overlooking the water, with its ancient stone towers and intricate relief carvings. *Black & White Aragvi Confluence Observe a rare natural phenomenon near Pasanauri where two distinct rivers—one dark, one light—merge into a single stream without immediately mixing their colors. *Gudauri & Russia–Georgia Friendship Monument Ascend higher into the Greater Caucasus to the ski resort town of Gudauri. Stop at the famous mosaic panorama monument built on the edge of a cliff, offering unobstructed, sweeping views of the Devil’s Valley. *Jvari Pass & Travertine Mineral Springs Cross the high-altitude Jvari Pass (2,379 m) and make a quick stop to see the unusual travertine formations—vibrant, rust-colored mineral deposits carved by natural mountain spring water flowing down the roadside rocks. *Arrival in Stepantsminda Finish the day by descending into the valley town of Stepantsminda (Kazbegi), surrounded by towering peaks. Day 2: Mount Elia, Gergeti Trinity & Dariali Gorge Highlights Elijah Mountain Viewpoint (St. Elias Church) *Start the day with a drive up Mount Elia overlooking Stepantsminda, offering a breathtaking panoramic vantage point facing Mount Kazbek and the surrounding mountain ridge. *Gergeti Trinity Church Visit the historic 14th-century Gergeti Trinity Church perched dramatically high above Stepantsminda, offering one of the most celebrated and iconic mountain panoramas in the Caucasus. *Dariali Gorge & Archangels Monastery Continue north through the grand Dariali Gorge, where steep vertical canyon walls sandwich the Tergi River.
