*Khustai was established in 2003. Unique wild horse – Takhi reintroduction project at Khustai National Park started in 1992. When this natural reserve was created in 1992, it covered an area of 506 square kilometres (195 square miles). Then, in 1998, it became a national park covering an area of 500 square kilometres (193 square miles), with the aim to reinsert the Przewalski’s horse, ”takhi” and to protect the ecosystem of the forest steppe, extremely threatened by the over exploitation of the land.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to Terelj, Mongolia

Start your trip at 9:00 in the morning. Drive to Statue of Chinggis Khaan which is the biggest horse statue in the world. We will visit small museum. Keep drive to Terelj National Park. Terelj about 80km north-east of Ulaanbaatar, is a deservedly popular destination. At 1600m, the area is cool and the alpine scenery is magnificent and green meadows carpeted with Edelweiss and a dazzling variety of other wild flowers attract nature lovers in summer. The park has many rock formations for rock climbers, and includes two famous formations named for things they resemble: Turtle Rock (Mongolian: Melkhii Khad) and the Old Man Reading a Book (Praying Lama Rock). We will visit local family for have lunch. We will hike to small meditation temple. Horse riding 1 hour. Stay in local family

Day 2: Terelj, Mongolia to Hustain Nuruu - Biosphere Reserve - Hustai National Park, Mongolia

Today we will drive to Khustai National Park Khustai National Park-100 kilometers to the west from Ulaanbaatar. The place forested steppe is home to the last true wild horse in the world, the Przewalski’s horse or Takhi horse. Khustai was established in 2003. Unique wild horse – Takhi reintroduction project at Khustai National Park started in 1992. When this natural reserve was created in 1992, it covered an area of 506 square kilometres (195 square miles). Then, in 1998, it became a national park covering an area of 500 square kilometres (193 square miles), with the aim to reinsert the Przewalski’s horse, ”takhi” and to protect the ecosystem of the forest steppe, extremely threatened by the overexploitation of the land. It houses 459 species of plants, 85 species of lichens, 90 species of mosses, 33 species of mushrooms, and 44 species of mammals live in this area, such as the red deer, Mongolian gazelle, roe deer, gray wolf, lynx, red fox. We can also see in the park 217 species of birds, such as the golden eagle, bearded vulture, great bustard, whooper swan, black stork and partridge. The reserve is composed at the same time of desert zones and of mountainous zones

Day 3: Hustain Nuruu - Biosphere Reserve - Hustai National Park, Mongolia to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

After breakfast hike about 3 hours to Hustai mountain. Have lunch in the local family. Drive back to Ulaanbaatar
