About this tour

We offer you a unique experience where you can visit both corners of Mongolia, the north and the western. From Ulaanbaatar, we will drive all the way to the Tsaagaan Nuur which is the most northern village. Further, we will switch to horseback and head to the reindeer herders' place. In the second part of the trip, we will visit the westernmost part of the country where you can enjoy the hospitality of the nomadic eagle hunter’s family. Attend at Altai eagle festival and be a part of real nomadic life. This is a real adventure and with a long drive. So please get ready for the real experience. And if you are looking for an easy or luxury trip, it is not for you. But if you are looking for an extreme and wildland adventure here we are!!! Please get ready for any weather conditions. pack waterproof boots and some warm clothes!

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

/Day 1: Arrive in Ulaanbaatar. Welcome to Mongolia. We will pick you up on your arrival in Ulaanbaatar. You will be transferred to your hotel. For the evening welcome dinner at the restaurant and discuss our adventure for the next two weeks. Pack everything and make it ready for the trip. Stay overnight in a hotel.

Day 2: Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to Hatgal, Mongolia

Day 2: Drive to Hatgal Hatgal is famous for with perfect location by the lake Khuvsgul. Here you can enjoy the stunning freshwater lake Khuvsgul which is well known as the little sister of Baikal Lake. We will stay at the ger camp by the lake to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Day 3: Hatgal, Mongolia to Gurvansaikhan, Mongolia

Day 3: Drive to Tsagaan-nuur village OK, are you ready for the long drive? The trails are very bad so that is why we will make it slow but safe. Almost half of the trail is by the lake and you can enjoy gorgeous Khuvsgul lake views. After a long drive, we will arrive in a little village Tsagaan Nuur, and stay at a wooden guest house. The village has it is guardian's place. So we need to get a permit in advance. We got it no worries. Enjoy your day!

Day 4: Gurvansaikhan, Mongolia to Zuulun, Mongolia

Day 4: Horseback day Today we will ride a horse for about 5 hours till the Reindeer herder’s Autumn place. Usually, in this period of the year, there is mud on-road and it might not be accessible by vehicles. So, the horses are well trained and plus it is more enjoyable. Upon arrival at the reindeer herder’s place, you have an opportunity to get to know them more deeply. Please feel free to talk with them and photo-shooting. And, yes today you will stay overnight in a traditional teepee. The nomadic reindeer herders live in such a teepee all year round. And mostly in winter, it is terribly cold in there.

Day 5: Zuulun, Mongolia

Day 5: Experience the reindeer herders. For the photographer, it is a good place to get some wild nature pictures and experience herder’s lifestyle. You can take a short hike to the nearest hill and enjoy the surrounding nature

Day 6: Zuulun, Mongolia to Gurvansaikhan, Mongolia

Day 6: Back to Tsagaan-nuur village Another horseback trekking day. You are slowly becoming a real nomad. Take a rest and enjoy the peace of surroundings. If we are lucky with the weather, you can swim in the lake. But, it depends on the weather. We also can walk in a village and get to know it better.

Day 7: Gurvansaikhan, Mongolia to Murun, Mongolia

Day 7: Drive to the Murun Murun is the administrative center of the Khuvsgul province. The road is bad and it takes longer. Please be patient. On the way, we will cross another beautiful village Ulaan Uul. There is a beautiful spot to take a rest and photo-shooting. After arrival in town, we will stay at the hotel. A delicious meal and hot shower will wait for you! It is twice enjoyable after such a trip.

Day 8: Murun, Mongolia to Ulaangom, Mongolia

Day 8: Drive all the way to Naranbulag sum Today we will drive all the way to Naranbulag sum. It is located right between Murun and Olgii. It is going to be another long drive day. But the good thing is you have an opportunity to enjoy the endless Mongolia landscape with all it is beauty. On the way we will take a break at Khiargas Lake, It is one of the most popular camping sides for locals. Enjoy your adventure. After arrival in Naranbulag, we will stay with a local family. It is a real experience being a guest a local family.

Day 9: Naranbulag, Mongolia to Ulgii, Mongolia

Day 9: Arrive in Olgii. Today we will drive all the way to the Olgii. On the way, we will cross several little villages. And at village Bayannur we will visit another local family for having lunch. Drive further and arrive in Olgii, Stay at a local hotel or ger camp with a hot shower and Wi-Fi. Take a rest!

Day 10: Ulgii, Mongolia to Uujim, Mongolia

Day 10: Visit Eagle hunter’s autumn place. After having breakfast we will head to the eagle hunter’s place. Where you will meet nomadic eagle hunters. Here we call this region the heart of Altai. Altai is a huge territory which is located right in the middle of four countries. The Altai is rich with stunning wild nature and it is home to nomadic people, one of them is ethnic Kazakh nomads who are famous for their traditional hunting with specially trained golden eagles.

Day 11: Uujim, Mongolia

Day 11-12: Attend to Altai Eagle festival 2023 Altai eagle festival usually takes a place in the small village of Sagsai. And it is absolutely the same festival as GEF (October Golden Eagle Festival) if not even better. It is because the weather is warmer and the second reason fewer tourists which is more comfortable to feel the festival naturally being. During the Festival I will guide you and do our best to enjoy such an ancient traditional festival. Our team will set our own Ger where we can have lunch and take some rest. The hot cup of tie or coffee is ready anytime. There will be a number of traditional Horse games such as “Hiz huu” and “Tyin Ilu” we will introduce each of them and explain the history and of the games. Our Discover Altai team is based in Western Mongolia and we are currently located on Olgii. So, that is why we know all of the competitors very well and if you have any wishes like filming or photo shooting the nomads during the festival, just let us know. Also, during the September Festival, the weather is warmer, and if you guys prefer to stay at your private yurt in the nature. You can be a like real nomad and stay two nights in ger. Of course, we will heat the oven inside. There might be no luxury, but you can feel the real experience of nature yurt under the open Sky. (I recommend it)

Day 12: Uujim, Mongolia

Day 11-12: Attend to Altai Eagle festival 2023 Altai eagle festival usually takes a place in the small village of Sagsai. Day 13: Uujim, Mongolia to Ulgii, Mongolia

Day 13: Photo-shooting day Today we will hire over 4-to 5 eagle hunters. And you are welcome to photo shooting. We can choose couple places to have a different pictures. Mountain side or valley. And please, feel free to ask what kind of pictures comes to your mind. Of course professional photographers has special requires, that they want to do. We are absolutely OK with that. Also, if you like you can ride a horse and be a part of real eagle hunting. Today we will drive to Olgii and you will be transferred to your hotel.

Day 14: Ulgii, Mongolia to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

Day 14: Fly back to UB. Today you will take a domestic flight to Ulaanbaatar. And right at the airport our UB team will meet you up and drive all the way to the World’s biggest horse Monument. Enjoy the Terelj National Park and the Chinggis Khaan Monument. Visit the museum. Take a hike at the famous Stone Turtle.

Day 15: Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
