Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Ulaanbaatar to Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, Mongolia

Early morning transfer to airport at 06.30am catch a flight to Olgii. Upon arrival transfer by car to Tsagaan gol valley in Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. It is 200km. Approximately 7 hrs of driving. We will pass through Ulaankhus and Tsengel villages. En route to Tsagaan gol stop at Deer Stones Monuments and follow up driving alongside of the White Water River till the Ranger’s station at 2500m. Tsagaan gol the name is comes from after white sands of Potanin glacier where the riverhead is. Camping by tent.

Day 2: Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, Mongolia

Horseback riding to the Base camp of Altai Tavan Bogd Mountains. It will take 5 hrs to get there. 16km. We’ll use camel support to bring our camp-ing equipment to the Base of Altai at 3000m. Tavan Bogd means The Holy Five referring to the five highest peaks, of which Huiten Uul is the highest in Mongolia, 4374 meters above sea level. The other peaks are Nairamdal (Friendship) at 4180m, Olgii (Craddle) at 4113m, Bürged (Eagle) at 4068m, and Malchin (herder) at 4050m. Enjoy a stunning view of Massif Altai Mountains while riding the horse. Camping by tent.

Day 3: Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, Mongolia to Malchin Peak, Mongolia

The trek up to Malchin Peak is on rocky terrain and will take about 4-5hrs for one way. From base camp, the trek is alongside the Potanin Glacier, after 1 hr of hike, we will arrive at the foothill of Malchin. The terrain starts will gradual mixed rock with scree, and gets steeper at about 3,300m. The trek is non technical but will require determination to enjoy a spectacular view from the top as northern side is Russia and 3km to Chinese border. We will return to base camp around 3pm. Then we will ride a horse back to Tsagaan gol valley. Camping by tent or yurt.

Day 4: Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, Mongolia to Ölgii Airport, Mongolia

In the morning we will visit nomadic Tuvan family. We will experience nomadic culture, daily lifestyle and hospitality of the Tuvan people. Drive back to Olgii. On the way to Olgii in Sagsai soum we will visit an Eagle hunter’s family. Stay in a hotel.

Day 5: Bayan-Ölgii, Mongolia to Ulaanbaatar

Transport to local airport of Olgii. Flight to Ulaanbaatar.
