About this tour
The Altai region is a mountainous area located on the territory of Mongolia, Eastern Siberia, Kazakhstan and China.
The mountain peak at Altai Tavan Bogd is located at an altitude of 4374 meters, and it is the highest point above sea level in Mongolia and is called Khuiten.
Most scientists believe that the mountain name comes from the word “mountain with gold.”
The glaciers are located at an altitude of 3,500-4,000 meters above sea level. The largest glaciers are the Potanin Glacier, Alexander Glacier, Greny Glacier. They stretch 16 kilometers in length and are the source of the Tsagaan River. The five highest peaks of Altai Tavan Bogd mountain are Khuiten peak 4374 meters, Friendship peak 4082 meters, Herdsman peak 4037 meters, Eagle peak 4068 meters, and Ulgiy peak 4050 meters. In 1956, mountaineers of Mongolia conquered the Altai Tavan Bogd peak for the first time. Since then, more than 700 climbers have conquered these peaks and they have become the favorite peaks for domestic and foreign mountaineers.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Mongolia to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
Upon your arrival at Ulaan Bataar airport, you will be met by our representative and, after checking in at the hotel, we will take you on a city sightseeing tour.(Hotel/D).
Day 2: Ulaanbaatar International Airport, Mongolia to Ulgii, Mongolia
We will fly to Ulgii City, in the Bayan-Ulgii province in Western Mongolia, about a 2.5 hour flight. The population of this province is mostly Kazakh, with their own culture and language. At the airport you will be met your English-speaking guide, as well as your driver and expedition cook. Before lunch you will visit the town of Ulgii, seeing such sites as the local museum, the open air market, and the mosque. After lunch we will drive to Tavn Bogd (Five Peaks) National Park,Oigor gol Valley. The total trip will take about about 7 hours, with an overnight stay along the way in a tent camp (Tent/L/D).
Day 3: Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, Mongolia to Altai Tavan Bogd, Mongolia
Hiking to the Tavan Bogd Base Camp Today we will hike 6 hours to the base camp of Tavan Bogd. Our luggage will be transported by camels, handled by the local people, they are friendly and helpful. On the way you can see the ice peaks of the Potanin and Alexander Glaciers. The base camp is at an elevation of 3000 m. (Tent/B/L/D)
Day 4: Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, Mongolia to Malchin Peak, Mongolia
After breakfast we will start slowly walking for about an hour and then start climbing to Malchin Peak (4050 m), which is on the Mongolian side of the Russian border. Malchin Peak is the lowest of the Holy Five Peaks. It takes 6 to 7 hours to climb to the top of Malchin. Most of the climb will be on rocks, then back to camp to relax. (Tent/B/L/D)
Day 5: Malchin Peak, Mongolia to White River, Mongolia
Today we will hike back to the White River valley, and meet the drivers. (Tent/B/L/D)
Day 6: White River, Mongolia to Ulgii, Mongolia
Return to Ulgii
Day 7: Ulgii, Mongolia to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
Fly back to Ulgii. Here you will say Good Bye to your team
Day 8: Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
You will fly back to your country and your trip in Mongolia will over
