Alzhir - Akmolinsk Ussr Gulag Labor Camp- Day Tour

The Akmolinsk special department of KarLag NKVD ( Karaganda camp) was created specifically for women according to the Order of NKVD ( People’s Commissariat of Internal Affairs) dated December 3, 1937 on the basis of so called “26th point” village of labour settlements. The first group of women with children aged from 1 till 3 arrived in Akmolinsk on the 6th of January 1938 y. This camp was specific. “Alzhir” - “the Akmolinsk camp for wives of traitors of the Motherland”. More than 18 thousand women passed the stage and around 8 thousand served call to call time in “Alzhir”. Situated nearby Astana City, it is a Museum of History.
