The lake is located in the mountains of the Trans-Ili Alatau at an altitude of 2511 m, the length of the lake is 1.5 km, and the depth reaches 40 m. Since this is an alpine lake, the water temperature in it, even in summer, is no more than 10 degrees.
The Big Almaty Lake was formed due to a strong earthquake, more than 3 thousand years ago.
