Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Dashoguz, Turkmenistan to Darvaza Gas Crater - "Door to Hell", Derweze, Turkmenistan
Tour itinerary Day 1 Khiva to Darvaza Gas Crater, Turkmenistan In the morning drive to Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan border point. Go through border formalities on both checkpoints. Cross the 1.5 km neutral zone. Meet your Turkmenistan guide and drive to Kunya-Urgench. Visit mausoleums of Turabek-Khanym, Sultan Tekesh, Sultan Il Arslan, Hazrat Najmuddin-Kubra, Sultan Ali. Discover the Kutlug Timur Minaret and Kyrk Molla Hill. Then, drive to Darvaza gas crater in the Karakum desert (270 km, 4 hours). Set up a camp. Enjoy a delicious fire-cooked meal for dinner. Overnight in tents. Meals: Dinner/breakfast
Day 2: Darvaza Gas Crater - "Door to Hell", Derweze, Turkmenistan to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan
Day 2 Darwaza to Ashgabat, In the morning drive to Ashgabat Start the day with a sightseeing tour in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan that has recently been noted by the Guinness Book of World Records as having more white marble buildings than any other city in the world. During the city tour you will explore an archaeological site of Old Nisa included in UNESCO World Heritage list and Turkmenbashi Mosque-Mausoleum, one of the biggest mosques in Central Asia. You will visit the Monument of Neutrality, Ertugrul Gazi Mosque, newly built Independence Park. Intense and interesting excursion also includes a stopover at the Akhalteke horse stables/complex.
Day 3: Ashgabat, Turkmenistan to Turkmenabat, Turkmenistan
Day 3 Ashgabat to Merv to Turkmenabat Drive early in the morning at 7:00 to Merv city (guide will need to order your breakfast lunchboxes). Explore ancient city of Merv, listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site that was a major center of international trade and crafts located on the Silk Road. Visit Hazrat Yousuf Hamadani mausoleum, Sultan Sanjar Mausoleum, Large and Small Gyz Gala, Keshk Fortress and others.. At 17:00 drive to Turkmenabat city. Farewell dinner and overnight in the hotel.
Day 4: Turkmenabat, Turkmenistan to Farab, Turkmenistan
Day 4 Turkmenabat to Bukhara to Samarkand After breakfast at 7:30, depart to Bukhara city, through crossing Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan border point. Go through border formalities on both checkpoints. Meet your guide and drive to Bukhara (40 min.).
