The Fann Mountains are one of the true gems of Tajikistan — a place where real high-altitude adventure begins. It is a world of majestic peaks, shimmering glaciers, and lakes glowing in breathtaking shades of turquoise and ultramarine. Here, the mountains rise toward the sky, the air is filled with crystal freshness, and every trail reveals panoramas that take your breath away. The space of freedom, silence, and raw natural power creates an atmosphere impossible to experience in an ordinary journey.Fiery sunsets paint the slopes in golden tones, while nights beneath an endless starry sky become moments of complete unity with nature. This is more than trekking — it is an experience that transforms you and stays with you forever.
On the first day, we will head to the mountains, where we will be welcomed by Artuch — a cozy base located at an altitude of 2200 m, in the heart of the Fann Mountains. Those who wish can pre-book a transfer from the arrival point to the camp. Accommodation is in comfortable alpine lodge rooms. In the evening — dinner at the café with breathtaking views of the mountain peaks.
Today marks the beginning of the truly active part of our adventure! We set off along a scenic and well-marked trail to the Kulikalon Lakes. During the first days, our backpacks will be carried by donkeys, allowing us to acclimatize more easily and enjoy the trek without extra strain. Our route starts with an ascent along a roaring waterfall and the slopes of the Khodzharovat and Ruzirovat mountains. Along the way, we will be amazed by the majestic Kulikalon Wall and the surrounding peaks over 4000 m — Adamtash, Mirali, Rudaki, and more. Every stop is a chance to take unforgettable photos and simply breathe in the pure mountain air. We explore the Kulikalon Lakes basin — a total of 14 lakes with crystal-clear emerald-blue water, where fish can sometimes be seen. The trail winds through picturesque juniper forests, creating the feeling of a true mountain fairy tale. After lunch, we will stroll along the lakes, soaking in the serenity and beauty of this place. In the evening, we will set up camp on the shore of Bibidjanat Lake and spend our first night in tents.
Today promises an early start and a true mountaineering adventure! We will ascend to Alaudin Pass, a 1A category climb reaching 3860 m, followed by a descent to the Alaudin Lakes.During the ascent, our eyes will be treated to stunning panoramas: the majestic pass wall reveals views of the Kulikalon Lakes and the Dusha Lakes, known as the “Eyes of Maria.” From the pass saddle, we will be amazed by the sight of Chapdara Peak (5197 m) and the Chapdara River valley below.Far beneath us, the bowls of the Alaudin Lakes sparkle with water ranging in color from soft blue to rich ultramarine — a sight that will stay in our memories forever. In the evening, we will set up camp on the shore of the lake at 2800 m and spend the night in tents, soaking in the peace and magical atmosphere of the mountains.
Today we will spend the day at the Alaudin Lakes, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of this beautiful corner of the Fann Mountains. It will be a day for photography, visiting a local teahouse, and walking to a nearby village. We will set up camp on the shore of the lake (2800 m) and spend the night in tents
After breakfast, we continue our route to the Mutnye Lakes. Throughout the day, we will enjoy magnificent panoramic views of the peaks Kaznok, Zamok (5070 m), Energia (5105 m), and Chimtarga (5489 m). The harsh beauty of the alpine zone surrounds us — hanging glaciers and steep moraine ridges create a dramatic landscape.Along the way, we will see rare birch trees and a small, perfectly round lake known as Lake Piala. Those who wish may take a refreshing swim there. We will also pass giant steps left by a retreating glacier and polished rock formations. High above, we may spot eagles circling in the sky. Here, we bid farewell to the mule drivers — from this point, those who wish can carry their backpacks themselves or hand them over to porters. The trek will take no more than three to four hours, so we will spend the second half of the day relaxing. The grandeur of the landscape and the absence of vegetation create a truly mesmerizing scene.
Today, the long climb from the Muddy Lakes to the saddle requires gaining about 1,200 meters of elevation. Today, we will only climb to the pass, gradually acclimatizing and gaining altitude. The trail first passes through scree, then turns onto a glacier descending from the summit of Energia, and leads us to a fairly steep scree slope, after which we will find ourselves in a cozy pass. We will take a break and have a snack here. Then we will continue our route to the third tent camp below the Chimtarga Pass (4450 m) and have dinner with an inimitable view of the peaks of Chimtarga and Energia, as well as a clear view of the pass saddle and the peaks of the giant mountains. This will be the highest overnight stay of the trip. We will spend the night in tents.
In the morning, we make a dash for it—and here we are at the saddle of the Chimtarga Pass. Here, from an altitude of 4,750 m, a wonderful panorama opens up from the cloud-covered peaks of Malaya and Bolshaya Ganza. We have a long way to go down to the valley of the Pravy Zindon River to Lake Bolshoye Allo. The trail runs along slopes covered with small stones. In some places, it is difficult to move, but we will overcome it. After the final crossing of a large stone debris field, we come to the intersection of the valleys, where the coveted lake is hidden. In 1912, a powerful earthquake shook the Fani Mountains, causing the southern slope of the Western Fani Ridge to instantly crumble into pieces. The river stopped, and the mountains witnessed the birth of a new "mountain eye" — Bolshoye Allo. It is bean-shaped and filled with ice-cold water of an unusually rich blue color. Among the thirty Fanskaya lakes, Bolshoye Allo is considered the most majestic and beautiful. We spend the night in tents.
Today we have the longest transition and the final part of our route ahead of us. The trail leads us along a steep gorge, past the small lake Maloe Allo. We will have lunch on the shore of the lake, enjoying the coolness and tranquility of the lake. With every hundred meters we descend towards the village of Gazza, the air temperature will become warmer. We will meet our driver. Then we will drive to the Artuch Alpine Camp. A wonderful farewell evening and sauna await us.
After breakfast, those who wish can take the alpine camp's cars to Penjikent or towards the checkpoint with Samarkand. (If desired, group members can order a transfer from the border to Samarkand).
