Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Fes, Morocco to Merzouga, Morocco
This day’s journey from Fes to Merzouga promises to be an exhilarating one. You will traverse the Middle Atlas Mountains, reaching the city of Ifrane, affectionately known as the Switzerland of Morocco. This charming town is renowned for its sky-high altitudes and picturesque landscapes, reaching up to 1,665 meters. Next, we will proceed to the Azrou Forest, the largest cedar forest in Africa, where you may have the opportunity to encounter and feed the rare Barbary Macaque monkeys. For lunch, we will make a stop in the town of Medilte and enjoy a traditional Moroccan meal at a local restaurant. Our journey continues through the captivating Tiz N’Talghamt pass and Ziz Gorge, allowing you to soak in the breathtaking views of the expansive date palm-filled valley. We will then make our way to the renowned Merzouga, where you will transition from car to camelback for an enchanting trek through the dunes. Prepare to be mesmerized by the magical sunset over the dunes before arriving at our camp. Once at the camp, you will enjoy a delightful dinner followed by a night spent in a Saharan tent, immersing yourself in the serene atmosphere. Day 2: Merzouga, Morocco to Aït Benhaddou, Morocco
Rise early to witness a captivating sunrise over the dunes, followed by a delicious breakfast and a short break before our camelback adventure. Along our journey to Toudgha Gorges, we will make a stop at Errissani to explore the vibrant local market. In the same area, you will have the opportunity to visit a workshop dedicated to fossils, showcasing remarkable specimens dating back as far as 500 million years. As we continue our drive, we’ll visit the « khattarat, » one of the world’s oldest irrigation systems. In Tinghir, you can take a leisurely stroll through local gardens and explore the Jewish Quarter. Next, we’ll embark on a short drive to Todgha Gorges, a magnificent collection of limestone river canyons. After a satisfying lunch, we’ll resume our journey on the renowned road of a thousand kasbahs. Our next stop is Kelaat Mgouna, famously known as the « rosy city » due to its annual festival celebrating roses. Here, you will have the opportunity to visit a local rose water extraction cooperative. Along the way, be sure to capture the natural beauty of the oases through your camera lens. Continuing our route, we will explore the cinematic wonders of Ouarzazate, often referred to as the Hollywood of Africa, where famous movies like The Gladiator and Game of Thrones were filmed. Our path then leads us to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Benhadou, renowned for its pre-Saharan clay houses intricately grouped together to form impressive defense walls. You will have the chance to take a guided walking tour and immerse yourself in the historical richness of this extraordinary location.
Day 3: Aït Benhaddou, Morocco to Marrakesh, Morocco
Our journey will take us through the awe-inspiring Tizi’NTichka Pass, a colossal winding mountain road renowned for its stunning vistas. We will make several stops along the way, allowing you to bask in the beauty of the panoramic landscapes and capture breathtaking photos of the surrounding scenery. As we approach Marrakech, anticipation and excitement will build. Upon arrival in Marrakech, you will be warmly welcomed and escorted to your riad, a traditional Moroccan guesthouse.
