Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Djerba, Tunisie to Ksar Ghilane, Tunisie

Full Day – Ksar Ghilane & Matmata: Desert Oasis, Star Wars & Berber Villages At 6:30 a.m. , our team picks you up from wherever you are on Djerba or in Zarzis to accompany you on a desert adventure. Leave the island via the Roman causeway and head toward the mainland. Morning: Briefing, panoramic views & rocky tracks Stop at a café among the olive groves for a briefing where your guide will explain the detailed program and show you the itinerary on a map. Then, head to Ain El Amba, a mountain offering a panoramic view over the Jeffara plain. Take advantage of this opportunity for stunning photos. Fifteen minutes later, you will tackle the rocky tracks of the Reg Tunisien. Enjoy the sudden change of landscape and the thrilling 4x4 sensations as you bounce across the desert terrain. In the middle of nowhere, stop for a photo break. Listen to the silence – it is truly unique. With luck, you will cross paths with a Bedouin and his herd of goats, sheep, or camels. Late morning: Ksar Ghilane oasis – hot spring bath Around 11:00 a.m., you arrive at the Ksar Ghilane oasis – a unique place where the green of the palm grove embraces the ochre color of the dunes. Your guide will show you where to change, and then you will enjoy a swim in the natural hot spring. This warm, mineral-rich water is also used to irrigate the surrounding palm groves. A few meters away, you will find the quads and camels. Do not hesitate to book a ride to cross the dunes and head to Fort Tisavar (optional activities, payable on site to local providers). Lunch Around 1:00 p.m., you will have lunch. Savor good Tunisian cuisine in a typical setting. The menu usually includes a starter (soup), main course (Tunisian couscous), and seasonal fruit for dessert (beverages not included). Afternoon: Tamazret, Matmata, Sidi Driss, Toujane & Ksar Hallouf After lunch, depart for the troglodyte village of Matmata. First, stop at the Berber village of Tamazret for a coffee break and enjoy a thé zret (rosemary tea with almonds). Then, visit a troglodyte house – an underground home carved into the mountain. Experience how Berber families have lived for generations, protected from the desert heat. Next, visit Sidi Driss, the famous filming location of the Star Wars saga. Known as the "Star Wars Hotel," this was used as Luke Skywalker's home on Tatooine. Walk through the same rooms where cinematic history was made. Continue to the Berber village of Toujane, perched between two mountains. Take time to capture photos of this ochre-colored village, famous for its carpets and honey. Finally, on the road back to Djerba, stop at the famous Ksar Hallouf. This is a collective granary (ksar) used to store the harvest of the tribes of southeastern Tunisia. It features multiple Ghorfas (traditional Berber vaulted rooms). Discover this unique architecture and enjoy the panoramic view over the surrounding palm groves. Late afternoon: Return to Djerba Take the road back to Djerba. In the late afternoon, you will return with a head full of beautiful memories. Drop-off at your accommodation.
