Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Бишкек, Кыргызстан to Kilemche, Кызарт, Кыргызстан
Bishkek – Kyzart Village – Kilemche Jailoo Meet your guide in Bishkek and begin your journey toward the mountains through the spectacular Boom Gorge. Upon arrival in Kyzart Village, enjoy a traditional homemade lunch hosted by a local family. After a riding briefing and horse-handling instruction, begin your horseback adventure through the beautiful Bazar-Turuk Valley. Follow winding rivers, rolling green hills, and vast alpine meadows as you gradually ascend toward Kilemche Jailoo. Known as the “Carpet Pasture,” Kilemche stretches across entire mountain ranges like a giant green felt carpet, resembling the intricate patterns of a traditional Kyrgyz shyrdak. Arrive at a remote yurt camp where nomadic families spend their summers grazing livestock. Enjoy dinner beneath the stars and experience your first night in a traditional Kyrgyz yurt. * Driving: 270 km (5–6 hours) on paved and mountain roads. * Horseback riding: 26km (5 hours) * Meals: Lunch at a local guesthouse, dinner at the yurt camp. * Accommodation: Private yurt. * Facilities: Shared outdoor WC, no shower, no internet or mobile signal.
Day 2: Kilemche, Кызарт, Кыргызстан to Ozero Sonkel', Кыргызстан
Kilemche Jailoo – Jalgyz Karagai Pass – Song-Köl Lake Ride across high mountain pastures toward Jalgyz Karagai Pass (3,400 m). As you gain elevation, breathtaking views unfold behind you across Kilemche’s endless grasslands. Cross the rocky mountain pass before descending toward the legendary Song-Köl Lake, Kyrgyzstan’s largest alpine lake and one of the most beautiful nomadic regions in Central Asia. As the trail descends, the lake gradually reveals itself, framed by distant snow-capped mountains and vast summer pastures filled with horses and shepherds. Spend the night in a lakeside yurt camp and experience the timeless rhythm of nomadic life. Overnight: Lakeside Yurt Camp * Activity: 17 km horseback riding across alpine pastures and mountain passes. * Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the yurt camp. * Accommodation: Private lakeside yurt. * Facilities: Shared outdoor WC, shower available on request, very limited mobile signal and weak Wi-Fi.
Day 3: Ozero Sonkel', Кыргызстан to Таш-Рабат, Кыргызстан
Song-Köl Lake – Tash-Rabat Caravanserai Journey south through remote mountain roads and dramatic high-altitude landscapes. Cross Moldo Pass, famous for its spectacular serpentine road and panoramic views. Continue through untouched valleys toward Tash-Rabat, one of the most important historical monuments along the ancient Silk Road. Dating back to the 15th century, this remarkable stone caravanserai once sheltered merchants, travelers, and traders crossing Central Asia. After exploring the monument, relax in a traditional guesthouse and enjoy a hot stone bath surrounded by mountain scenery. Overnight: Guesthouse near Tash-Rabat * Driving: 220 km (6–7 hours) through remote mountain landscapes. * Meals: Breakfast at the yurt camp, lunch at a local café, dinner at the guesthouse. * Accommodation: Private guesthouse room. * Facilities: Shared outdoor WC, traditional Russian bath (banya), limited Wi-Fi.
Day 4: Таш-Рабат, Кыргызстан to Kok Kiya Valley, Кыргызстан
Tash-Rabat – Kok-Kyia Valley (Kel-Suu Region) Today’s route leads deep into the remote Ak-Sai region, one of the wildest and least-visited areas of Kyrgyzstan. Drive alongside the shores of Chatyr-Köl Lake and through immense open valleys inhabited by shepherds, yaks, and eagles. Lunch picnic on the way. Continue driving. Arrive in Kok-Kyia Valley, gateway to the famous Kel-Suu Lake. Surrounded by snow-capped peaks and untouched wilderness, this valley feels like the edge of the world. Overnight: Guesthouse in Kok-Kyia Valley * Driving: 207 km (6–7 hours), including mountain and gravel roads. * Meals: Breakfast and dinner at the guesthouse, picnic lunch en route. * Accommodation: Private guesthouse room. * Facilities: Shared WC, Russian sauna, good Wi-Fi and mobile coverage.
Day 5: Көлсуу, Кыргызстан to Нарын, Кыргызстан
Kel-Suu Lake Exploration – Naryn Horseback riding excursion Ride through dramatic mountain scenery toward the spectacular Kel-Suu Lake, hidden among towering cliffs at 3,500 meters above sea level. The lake’s changing colors, vertical rock walls, and mysterious atmosphere make it one of Kyrgyzstan’s most extraordinary natural wonders. Optional activities include a boat excursion across the lake or visiting the famous Bear Cave. After lunch, transfer to Naryn via high mountain passes and remote summer pastures. Day 6: Нарын, Кыргызстан to Боконбаево, Кыргызстан
Naryn – Issyk-Köl Lake – Bokonbaev Travel toward Issyk-Köl, often called the “Pearl of Central Asia.” Visit Kyzyl-Tuu Village, renowned for preserving the traditional art of yurt-making. Meet local craftsmen and discover how Kyrgyz nomads have built and used yurts for centuries. In Bokonbaev, witness an impressive eagle hunting demonstration, a centuries-old tradition passed down through generations. Finish the day with panoramic views over Issyk-Köl Lake from Ak-Sai canyon viewpoint. Day 7: Боконбаево, Кыргызстан to Каракол, Кыргызстан
Bokonbaev – Skazka Canyon – Barskoon – Jeti-Oguz – Karakol Explore the stunning southern shore of Issyk-Köl. Walk through the colorful red sandstone formations of Skazka (Fairytale) Canyon before continuing to Barskoon Gorge, famous for its waterfalls, spruce forests, and monument dedicated to Yuri Gagarin. Later, visit the iconic Jeti-Oguz Valley, known for its legendary “Seven Bulls” and “Broken Heart” rock formations. In Karakol, discover the fascinating multicultural history of the city with visits to the Russian Orthodox Cathedral and the unique Dungan Mosque. Day 8: Каракол, Кыргызстан to Sirota Camp, Altynarasan, Кыргызстан
Karakol Gorge – Sirota Camp Begin your trekking adventure in the Terskey Ala-Too Mountains. Hike through pristine spruce forests, alpine meadows, and deep mountain valleys while following powerful glacial rivers toward Sirota Camp. The wilderness becomes increasingly dramatic as you gain altitude beneath towering peaks. Overnight: Mountain Camp * Activity: 10 km trek (6–7 hours). * Meals: Breakfast at the hotel, picnic lunch, dinner at the mountain camp. * Accommodation: Private room in the mountain camp. * Facilities: Shared WC, no shower, limited or no internet.
Day 9: Sirota Camp, Altynarasan, Кыргызстан to Altyn-Arashan, Altynarasan, Кыргызстан
Sirota Camp – Ala-Köl Lake – Altyn-Arashan One of the most spectacular trekking days in Central Asia. Climb to Ala-Köl Pass (approximately 3,900–4,000 m) and witness breathtaking views of the turquoise Ala-Köl Lake surrounded by glaciers and 5,000-meter peaks. Descend into the famous Altyn-Arashan Valley, renowned for its hot springs, pine forests, and magnificent mountain scenery. Overnight: Guesthouse in Altyn-Arashan * Activity: 15 km trek (8–9 hours) via Ala-Köl Lake. * Meals: Breakfast at the camp, picnic lunch, dinner at the guesthouse. * Accommodation: Private guesthouse room. * Facilities: Shared WC, shower available, limited internet and mobile signal.
Day 10: Altyn-Arashan, Altynarasan, Кыргызстан to Бишкек, Кыргызстан
Altyn-Arashan – Karakol – Bishkek Enjoy a final morning in the mountains before hiking down along the Altyn-Arashan River to Ak-Suu Village. After lunch in Karakol, begin the scenic drive back to Bishkek, bringing your unforgettable Kyrgyz adventure to a close. End of Services * Activity: 14 km trek followed by a 5–6 hour drive to Bishkek. * Meals: Breakfast at the guesthouse, lunch and dinner at local restaurants. * Facilities: Full services available upon arrival in Bishkek.
