Iskandarkul Lake (Alexander Lake), Waterfall, Snake Lake, Saratogh Village, 5 springs
Our trip today is to high Mountain lake – Iskanderkul (2 255 m. a. s. l.). It is situated in the famous Fann Mountains. This fabulous area is one of the best places in Central Asia. The road to the lakes goes over Anzob pass (3 372 m) with amazing panorama views. After arrival at the lake, you will walk for 20 min to see Snake Lake. Then you follow a path that leads along the left bank of the river that flows out of Iskanderkul. Follow the path for about 1 km to get to a 50m-high waterfall known as the Niagara of Fann Mountains. Iskanderkul is a scenic lake that takes its name from Alexander the Great’s time in Tajikistan. Dinner and overnight in a guesthouse.
In the morning after breakfast, we set off for Saratog village, a village 9 km from the lake. You will walk along the lake and enjoy the panorama. In spring and autumn, the colour of the lake changes from turquoise to an ominous green. In summer, during high water, it becomes dirty and greyish. You will stop on the other side of the lake to see the president's dacha and 5 springs opposite the dacha, which are worth a visit. Upon arrival in the village, you will walk along the river and enjoy the village life. Dinner and overnight are in a guesthouse.
Saratog village is the starting point for serious hikes in the Fann Mountains, but here we will take some more relaxed walks dedicated to fauna and flora, landscape and village life. Follow the Karakul River as far east as you like for a lovely walk in the shade. Dinner and overnight in a guesthouse.
In the morning is transfer back to Dushanbe. End of the trip!
