Continue to Kolsai Lake, surrounded by the forested slopes of the Tien Shan Mountains.
On the way back, stop at the dramatic Black Canyon for panoramic views over the Charyn River before finishing the adventure at Charyn Canyon. Walk through the famous Valley of Castles, surrounded by towering red rock formations shaped by millions of years of wind and water.

Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Алматы, Казахстан
Early morning pickup from your hotel in Almaty. Travel by 4x4 towards the Kolsai Lakes region. Our first stop is the famous Kaindy Lake, known for its turquoise water and submerged spruce trees. After exploring Kaindy, continue to Kolsai Lake for a walk along the shore and time to enjoy the mountain scenery. On the way back towards Almaty, stop at Black Canyon for panoramic views over the Charyn River. Continue to Charyn Canyon and explore the spectacular Valley of Castles on foot. After the canyon visit, return to Almaty and drop off at your hotel in the evening.
What's included
Private transportation by comfortable 4x4 SUV, professional driver-guide, hotel pickup and drop-off in Almaty, entrance and environmental fees for Kolsai Lakes National Park and Charyn Canyon, bottled water, and all transportation between the locations included in the itinerary.
Meals and personal expenses are not included. Horse riding or local UAZ transfer at Kaindy Lake, boat rental and other optional activities at Kolsai Lake are available at an additional cost and are paid directly to local providers.

What to know
This is a full-day trip with an early morning departure and approximately 14–16 hours of travel. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring warm layers, as weather conditions can change quickly in the mountains. Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat are recommended. Some walking is required at Kaindy, Kolsai and Charyn Canyon. The itinerary and timing may be adjusted depending on weather, road conditions and season.
