Malchin Peak Trekking Trip
About this tour
This is a great hiking tour of Bayan Ulgii and Tavan Bogd National Park. You will get to see so much of Kazakh culture, the natural sites, and wildlife in a short tour
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Bayan-Ölgiy Aymag to Tsengel
1st Day Arrive in Ulgii. After arrival we will then take a five hours drive to Hoton lake. This will be on a dirt road with incredibly scenery around us. There is a glacier overlooking the lake. We will stay in the Alati mountains in a tent for the night.
Day 2: Altai
2nd Day. We will pack our things on camels and hike along horse rangers. This is a great place for bird watching among a beautiful forest and where a lot of local Kazakh nomads live. We will stay with a local family near Jagastai.
Day 3: Altai
3rd Day. This is a day where we will hike around the lake and forest for another day. There we will ses small streams and rivers. There is a also a small military base. For the night we will stay in Tavan Bogd national park at Aaraltolgoi overnight in a tent. Probably hike 16-20k.
Day 4: Altai
4th Day. Today we will hike Bear valley where there is a chance to see wolves, foxes, and bears off in the distance. For the night we will stay at the green lake in a tent.
Day 5: Altai
5th Day. We will hike Bear valley along the white river. This valley is completely empty so you will be alone with nature for the duration of the hike. We will camp by the river in the tent overnight.
Day 6: Altai
6th Day. We will pass by Takhilbai mountain on our way to meet Tuvan nomads. There we will stay in a tent along the Kharaayric valley.
Day 7: Altai
7th Day. Today we hike along the Kharaayic valley and reach the ranger station at the base of Tavan Bogd national park. We will stay in a traditional ger along Tsagaan Gol, white river.
Day 8: Altai
8th Day. Base camp hike for four hours. 16km.
Day 9: Altai
9th Day. Today is the exciting day! We will be hiking to Malshin Peak at 4050m. We don't need any special equipment. It will take three hours to summit the peak. It is an incredible view of glaciers and the tallest mountains in Mongolia. This is one of the five sacred peaks of Tavan Bogd. The highest is 4374m so we are pretty close to the highest!
Day 10: Altai to Biluu
10th Day. We will head back to the ranger station and camping
Day 11: Altai to Bugat
11th Day. We will drive to Sagsai and stay with an Eagle hunter's family for the night. Camp in a tent.
Day 12: Bayan to Bayan-Ölgiy Aymag
12th Day. Drive back to Ulgii and leave for your flight. If there is extra time then we can tour the city until your departure.
