About this tour
This expedition-style wildlife photography tour takes you deep into the remote Eastern Pamir in search of the legendary Marco Polo sheep — one of the most impressive and rare mountain species on Earth.
The Pamir Mountains, often called the “Roof of the World,” offer vast high-altitude plateaus, dramatic ridgelines, pristine air, and untouched wilderness. This tour is carefully designed to provide gradual altitude acclimatization followed by maximum time in prime wildlife habitat.
We travel to the most promising observation areas, work alongside experienced local wildlife trackers, and conduct photography sessions at sunrise and sunset — when light and animal activity are at their best.
The expedition follows a fully all-inclusive format, from airport arrival to mountain logistics. You can focus entirely on photography and the experience — we handle the rest.

Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Dushanbe International Airport, Dushanbe, Tajikistan to Dushanbe, Tajikistan
Day 1 — Arrival in Dushanbe | City Tour & Expedition Briefing Arrival at Dushanbe International Airport. Transfer to hotel and time to rest. Later, enjoy a guided city tour including central parks, cultural landmarks, and local markets — a perfect introduction to Tajikistan. In the evening, we conduct a full expedition briefing: route overview, safety procedures, altitude considerations, and photography tips for high-altitude and cold environments. Overnight in Dushanbe. Driving distance: approx. 20–30 km.
Day 2: Dushanbe, Tajikistan to Khorog, Tajikistan
Day 2 — Dushanbe → Khorog | Pamir Highway Journey Early departure along the legendary Pamir Highway — one of the world’s most scenic mountain roads. The drive follows dramatic valleys and the Panj River, with multiple scenic stops for landscape photography and cultural encounters along the way. Arrival in Khorog in the evening. Overnight in guesthouse. Distance: approx. 600 km (12–14 hours).
Day 3: Khorog, Tajikistan to Alichur, Tajikistan
Day 3 — Khorog → Alichur | Entering the High Pamir We continue toward the Eastern Pamir, gaining elevation and entering vast open plateaus and high mountain passes. This day allows for gradual altitude acclimatization. Scenic photography opportunities along the route. Arrival in the Alichur region — our base before entering key wildlife zones. Overnight in guesthouse or expedition camp. Distance: approx. 240 km (6–7 hours). Altitude: up to approx. 4,200 m.
Day 4: Alichur, Tajikistan to Dzhartygumbez, Tajikistan
Day 4 — First Wildlife Expedition Day Early departure to promising Marco Polo sheep habitats. Together with local trackers, we select observation points and scan distant slopes using optics. Midday repositioning depending on animal movement. Sunset photography session in the mountains. Overnight in guesthouse or camp. Off-road distance within wildlife zones: approx. 80–120 km (4×4).
Day 5: Dzhartygumbez, Tajikistan to Aydinkul, Tajikistan
Day 5 — Full Wildlife Photography Day A dedicated sunrise-to-sunset expedition day. We focus on locating herds, selecting strong vantage points, and working patiently in natural light conditions. Between wildlife sessions, we photograph high-altitude landscapes and environmental details.
Day 6: Aydinkul, Tajikistan to Ozero Salangur, Tajikistan
Day 6 — Exploring New Wildlife Areas Flexible movement to alternative valleys or plateaus if necessary to increase sighting opportunities. Possible encounters with ibex, wolves, and raptors. Continued landscape and wildlife photography.
Day 7: Ozero Salangur, Tajikistan to Dzhartygumbez, Tajikistan
Day 7 — Strategic Wildlife Observation Day Based on previous days’ observations, we concentrate efforts on the most active zones. This may involve extended observation from a strong vantage point or multiple shorter repositionings across different areas.
Day 8: Dzhartygumbez, Tajikistan to Uchkul', Tajikistan
Day 8 — Final Photography Day in Eastern Pamir Final sunrise and/or sunset sessions to capture additional wildlife and environmental shots. Preparation for departure from wildlife zones. Overnight in guesthouse or camp.
Day 9: Alichur, Tajikistan to Khorog, Tajikistan
Day 9 — Alichur → Khorog Return drive through the Pamir landscapes with scenic photography stops. Overnight in Khorog. Distance: approx. 240 km.
Day 10: Khorog, Tajikistan to Dushanbe, Tajikistan
Day 10 — Khorog → Dushanbe | End of Expedition Return journey to Dushanbe along the Pamir Highway with final photo opportunities en route. End of expedition upon arrival in Dushanbe. Distance: approx. 600 km.
