Meteorite Lakes Tour From Ust-Kamenogorsk Or Oskemen

Day 1: Ust'-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan to Ust-Kamenogorsk

There is a chain of 5 lakes of more or less equal size and shape. They are divided only by small hills, about 100 meters high and 200-300 meters wide at their feet. So, the distance between lakes is about 200-300 meters and all these lakes are placed at one line. Very intriguing position, isn't it? According to some scientists, these lakes were shaped by a meteorite fall upon the Earth. In such case, the meteorite should hit the ground once, make a hole in it, then bounce, rotate and hit the ground again, and so on several times. This hypothesis pretty well explains linear placement of all 5 lakes. If this theory is correct, then lakes should be increasingly shallow as the meteorite has ever less speed and energy to hit the ground. This also realises, as the last lake, 5th one, is just a big swamp. I am curious to have a drone next time and see all lakes in one picture. Anyway, even if it is not so, the land is beautiful and worth visiting. In the summer it is possible to swim there and have a meal, or stay for several days. If we move fast enough, the rest of day may be used for city tour in Ust-Kamenogorsk, one of oldest and most beautiful cities in Kazakhstan. On the way it is possible to visit ruins of mid 17th century Budda temple named Ablaikit. It operated only about 18 years but even ruins make big impression.
