Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Casablanca, Morocco to Rabat, Morocco
Welcome to the west coast of Morocco! Welcome to Casablanca. As the largest city in Morocco, Casablanca combines modernity with a strong French influence. The city boasts stunning architecture and numerous attractions for visitors to enjoy. A must-see attraction is the Hassan II Mosque, a true architectural marvel. Located on an outcrop overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, this magnificent mosque can accommodate 25,000 worshippers inside, with an additional 80,000 in its courtyard. What sets it apart is that, unlike most mosques, non-Muslims are allowed to enter. Inside, you’ll be captivated by the intricate marble work, elaborate wood and stone carvings, and the breathtaking gilded cedar ceilings. Casablanca is where tradition and modernity intertwine to create a truly unique experience. Enjoy the architectural wonders, immerse yourself in the vibrant culture, and savor the rich history of this captivating city on Morocco’s west coast. Next, you will head out from Casablanca to the capital city of Morocco, Rabat. Upon arrival, you will start with a visit to the impressive Kasbah of the Udayas, a UNESCO World Heritage site, followed by the iconic Hassan Tower and the adjacent Mausoleum of Mohammed V. At the end of the day, our tour guide will take you to your accommodations.
Day 2: Rabat, Morocco to Chefchaouen, Morocco
After breakfast, you will continue north to the blue city of Chefchaouen. The landscape transforms from flat plains and rolling hills to the rugged terrain of the Rif Mountains. Upon your arrival, explore the compact medina nestled along the northern hillside where you’ll find a plethora of charming shops, artisanal crafts, and cozy cafes. Take a moment to indulge in a delicious meal at Plaza Outa el Hammam, the central square buzzing with activity and lined with inviting eateries. Chefchaouen beckons with its mesmerizing blue hues, friendly ambiance, and natural beauty. Immerse yourself in this captivating city, embrace its distinctive charm, and create cherished memories along the way.
Day 3: Chefchaouen, Morocco to Fes, Morocco
After a delightful breakfast, your journey continues as you depart for the ancient ruins of Volubilis. Step back in time as you explore these well-preserved Roman ruins, gaining insight into the thriving civilization that once occupied this site over 2,000 years ago. Following your exploration of Volubilis, you will make your way to the city of Meknes, one of Morocco’s imperial cities. Enjoy a delicious lunch in this historically significant city, known for its impressive architecture and landmarks, including the magnificent Bab al-Mansour gate and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail. Continue your drive to Fes. Upon arrival, you will be taken directly to your riad or hotel, where you can relax and savor your evening meal.
Day 4: Fes, Morocco
Certainly! Exploring the Fes medina, particularly Fes el Bali, is a captivating and immersive experience. The narrow alleyways, known as « derbs, » wind their way through the heart of the medina, leading you to various points of interest. As you navigate the medina, you’ll encounter an eclectic mix of architectural styles influenced by different historical periods. One particular attraction that stands out is the Chouara Tannery. Located in the heart of the medina, the tannery is a remarkable sight with its stone pots filled with colorful dyes and workers engaged in the ancient art of leather tanning. Throughout your exploration, you’ll also come across several mosques, religious schools (madrasas), and historic sites that reflect the rich Islamic heritage of Fes. These include the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque and Library, which are testaments to the city’s intellectual and cultural legacy. Exploring the Fes medina is an immersive journey that allows you to step back in time, soak in the authentic atmosphere, and witness the living heritage of this ancient city.
Day 5: Fes, Morocco to Merzouga, Morocco
Embark on an adventurous journey through the Middle Atlas Mountains, where you’ll be greeted by breathtaking landscapes of lush forests, rugged peaks, and charming Berber villages. The scenic route takes you across the Atlas Mountains, offering glimpses of the diverse natural beauty along the way. During the drive, you’ll make a stop at Midelt, a town renowned for its apple orchards. Continuing on, you’ll reach the palm forests of the Ziz Valley, which will captivate you with its countless palm trees stretching as far as the eye can see. By evening, you’ll arrive in Merzouga. In Merzouga, you’ll meet your camel and embark on a trek across the sand dunes. Reach the top of a nearby dune to witness a breathtaking desert sunset. Afterward, return to your Bedouin-style tent for dinner and gather around a campfire under the starry sky. It’s a truly magical experience in the heart of the desert.
Day 6: Merzouga, Morocco to Aït Benhaddou, Morocco
You’ll need to rise early if you want to witness the magical sunrise. We will then visit Rissani, a small city, and along the way, we can explore their traditional market (souk). Continuing west, we will reach Todgha Gorge, where you can admire the extensive stretch of oasis and the community of buildings that follow the greenery. Upon your arrival at Todra Gorge, you can climb down to the water’s edge and relax in the refreshing water of the Todra River. Our journey continues west along the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, passing through the Dades Valley and the Rose Valley, also known as the « Capital of Roses. » Here, we can explore a local rose factory and learn about the rose production process. Moving forward, we’ll head to Ouarzazate, a popular desert hub and a renowned filming location often referred to as the « Hollywood of Africa. » Afterward, we will arrive at Ait Ben Haddou in the late evening, where you’ll spend the night in a riad.
Day 7: Aït Benhaddou, Morocco to Marrakesh, Morocco
After your breakfast, you will hike to the Kasbah of Aït Benhaddou, a fortified pisé village located in a valley near the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. It is the most famous kasbah in Morocco and a protected UNESCO site. Aït Benhaddou held a significant position along the trans-Saharan trade route between the southern desert and the cities of Marrakech and Ouarzazate. Your journey continues northwest, as you ascend the High Atlas Mountains and pass through the Tizi n’Tichka pass on your way to Marrakech. Afterward, we will arrive at Marrakech in the late evening, where you’ll spend the night in a riad.
Day 8: Marrakesh, Morocco
Unlike Fes, Marrakech has Berber roots rather than Arab roots and remains a major economic center today. Explore the vibrant city of Marrakech and immerse yourself in the bustling souks, where you can navigate through narrow alleys filled with colorful textiles and aromatic spices. Discover the historical richness of the city by visiting iconic landmarks such as the magnificent Koutoubia Mosque and the enchanting Bahia Palace. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the 16th-century Ben Youssef Madrasa, an Islamic school, and the Saadian Tombs, which were only discovered in the 1930s. Lose yourself in the sensory wonders of Jardin Majorelle and indulge in the flavors of Moroccan cuisine, savoring traditional dishes like tagine and mint tea. Experience the lively atmosphere of Jemaa el-Fna square, where snake charmers and street performers entertain the crowds.
Day 9: Marrakesh, Morocco to Casablanca, Morocco
Enjoy a comfortable and private transfer from Marrakech to your accommodation in Casablanca or to the airport, with an estimated travel time of around two and a half hours.
