Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Casablanca, Morocco
Welcome to Morocco! Upon your arrival in Casablanca, you will be transferred to your accommodation. Take a stroll along the Corniche, the beach promenade, to visit the Hassan II Mosque, which is the largest mosque in Morocco. Seize the opportunity to witness the breathtaking sunset casting its golden hues over this magnificent architectural masterpiece.
Day 2: Casablanca, Morocco to Rabat, Morocco
If you didn’t have time to visit the economic capital of Morocco upon your arrival, you will now have the opportunity to explore Casablanca’s highlights, including the Hassan II Mosque, Mohammed V Square, and the Habous district. Afterward, you will head out from Casablanca to the capital city of Morocco, Rabat. Upon arrival, your first stop will be the impressive Kasbah of the Udayas, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Next, you will visit the iconic Hassan Tower and the adjacent Mausoleum of Mohammed V. At the end of the day, our tour guide will accompany you to your accommodations.
Day 3: Rabat, Morocco to Chefchaouen, Morocco
This morning, head north to the enchanting blue city of Chefchaouen. As you travel, the landscape transforms from flat plains and rolling hills to the rugged terrain of the Rif Mountains. Upon your arrival, immerse yourself in the narrow and compact medina, nestled along the northern hillside. Explore the charming shops, browse through artisanal crafts, and relax in cozy cafes. Take a moment to indulge in a delicious meal at Plaza Outa el Hammam, the central square bustling with activity and lined with inviting eateries. Chefchaouen beckons with its mesmerizing blue hues, friendly ambiance, and natural beauty. Embrace the distinctive charm of this captivating city and create cherished memories along the way.
Day 4: Volubilis, Meknes, Morocco to Fes, Morocco
Start your day early to explore the tranquil streets and seize the perfect opportunity to capture unobstructed photos. Take in the serene ambiance as you wander through the quiet alleys. Afterward, join your driver and continue your journey towards the ancient ruins of Volubilis. Transport yourself back in time as you explore these remarkably preserved Roman ruins, gaining valuable insights into the flourishing civilization that once thrived here over 2,000 years ago. After immersing yourself in the wonders of Volubilis, you will proceed to the city of Meknes, one of Morocco’s imperial cities. Indulge in a delectable lunch in this historically significant city, renowned for its remarkable architecture and prominent landmarks, including the magnificent Bab al-Mansour gate and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail. Your drive will then continue towards Fes. Upon your arrival, you will be escorted directly to your riad or hotel, where you can unwind and relish a delightful evening meal.
Day 5: Fes, Morocco
Exploring the Fes medina, particularly Fes el Bali, is a captivating and immersive experience. The labyrinthine alleys, known as « derbs, » meander through the heart of the medina, leading you to various points of interest. As you navigate the medina, you will encounter a fascinating blend of architectural styles influenced by different historical periods. One notable attraction is the Chouara Tannery. Situated in the heart of the medina, the tannery is a remarkable sight with its stone vessels brimming with vibrant dyes, and craftsmen practicing the age-old art of leather tanning. Along your exploration, you will also come across numerous mosques, religious schools (madrasas), and historic sites that reflect the profound Islamic heritage of Fes. Noteworthy among these is the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque and Library, serving as a testament to the city’s intellectual and cultural legacy. Immersing yourself in the Fes medina is a journey that transports you back in time, envelops you in an authentic atmosphere, and allows you to witness the living heritage of this ancient city.
Day 6: Fes, Morocco to Merzouga, Morocco
Our adventure begins with a picturesque road trip from Fes to Merzouga, unveiling awe-inspiring mountainous landscapes and introducing us to charming small towns, ancient ruins, small kasbahs, and authentic Berber villages, among other captivating attractions. Our initial destination is the town of Ifrane, often referred to as the « Switzerland of Morocco, » for its pristine environment. Here, we will explore both the old and modern parts of Ifrane, immersing ourselves in its unique charm. Continuing our journey, we will pass through Moroccan villages, encounter small kasbahs, and be mesmerized by the beauty of the mountainous landscapes as we make our way towards Azrou. In Azrou, we will have the opportunity to visit the renowned cedar forest, known for its friendly monkey inhabitants. Interacting with and feeding these playful creatures will surely be a delightful experience. Afterward, we will embark on an exhilarating drive to the town of Midelt, where we will pause for a delightful lunch before proceeding to our final destination. Upon arrival in Merzouga, you’ll meet your camel and embark on a trek across the sand dunes. Reach the top of a nearby dune to witness a breathtaking desert sunset. Return to your Bedouin-style tent for dinner and gather around a campfire under the starry sky. In the Sahara Desert, a spectacular spectacle awaits those who are fascinated by stargazing.
Day 7: Merzouga, Morocco to Ouarzazate, Morocco
To witness the enchanting sunrise, it’s essential to wake up early. We will make a stop at Rissani, a charming small city, where we can explore the traditional market, known as the souk. Continuing our journey westward, we will reach the breathtaking Todgha Gorge, where an extensive oasis stretches out, accompanied by a cluster of buildings that thrive in the lush green surroundings. Upon arriving at the Todra Gorge, we will descend to the water’s edge, allowing you to relax and rejuvenate in the cool waters of the Todra River. Our adventure then takes us further west along the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, also known as the Dades Valley. We will pass through the Rose Valley, renowned as the « Capital of Roses, » and take the opportunity to visit a local rose factory, where you can learn about the production of rose-based products. Continuing our journey, we will reach the popular desert hub and famous filming location, Ouarzazate, often referred to as the « Hollywood of Africa. » Afterward, we will arrive at Ait Ben Haddou in the late evening, where you will spend the night in a Riad. Ait Ben Haddou is a UNESCO World Heritage site and offers a captivating atmosphere and stunning views.
Day 8: Aït Benhaddou, Morocco to Marrakesh, Morocco
To experience the authentic essence of the 11th-century fortified city, take the opportunity to explore the narrow passageways and alleys of the old kasbah before the crowds arrive. Departing from Aït Benhaddou, we will traverse the majestic High Atlas Mountains, crossing the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass. As you descend the slopes of the High Atlas facing north, you will witness a striking transformation in both climate and landscape. After the serene tranquility of the mountains and the desert, you will soon find yourself immersed in the vibrant energy and lively atmosphere of Marrakech.
Day 9: Marrakesh, Morocco
Embark on a guided tour led by a local guide to immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and aromas of Marrakech, famously known as the « Red City. » Begin your exploration at Jemaa el-Fna Square and continue on to visit some of the finest souks. At Souk el Attarine, marvel at the renowned spice towers, while at Souk Smata, discover traditional Moroccan slippers. Accompanied by your guide, venture to the magnificent Bahia Palace, dating back to the 19th century. Take a leisurely stroll through its lush gardens, appreciating the captivating beauty of the courtyard and the exquisite interiors adorned with intricate woodwork and ornate ceilings. Next, make your way to Koutoubia Mosque, the largest mosque in the city. To conclude your tour, venture slightly beyond the old town to visit the Menara Gardens, a 12th-century oasis of tranquility. Afterwards, spend the afternoon exploring one of Marrakech’s most enchanting sites, such as Le Jardin Secret (The Secret Garden), a recently restored 19th-century palace complex showcasing traditional architecture and a diverse array of exotic plants. Alternatively, you can visit Jardin Majorelle. As the sun sets, witness the vibrant atmosphere come alive once again at Jemaa el-Fna Square, where you can indulge in the lively ambiance and witness various street performances and entertainment.
Day 10: Marrakesh, Morocco to Essaouira, Morocco
Bid farewell to Marrakech, known as the Red City, and embark on a journey towards Morocco’s picturesque west coast. Traverse across expansive rolling plains, taking in the breathtaking scenery that unfolds before you. En route, you will pass through a mesmerizing argan tree forest, unique to this region. Keep an eye out, as you might catch a glimpse of goats gracefully perched on the tree branches, delicately nibbling on the precious argan fruit! Upon arrival, have a seafood lunch from the wharf.
Day 11: Essaouira, Morocco
Embark on a fascinating journey through the enchanting and storied city of Essaouira with the assistance of a knowledgeable local guide or on your own. Begin your excursion at the clock tower situated within the protective walls of the city’s medina. As you navigate the wide and well-lit streets of the medina, which spans an impressive 30 hectares, take delight in the bustling souks, street vendors, verdant plazas, and exquisite whitewashed houses adorned with intricate wooden doors. Eventually, these captivating streets will lead you to the heart of the city, Moulay Hassan Square, adorned with a variety of restaurants and hotels. Adjacent to the square lies the picturesque harbor, where you can observe skilled anglers crafting fishing boats by hand, repairing nets, and baiting fishing lines. You will also have the opportunity to explore several historical landmarks, including the 16th-century Portuguese Castelo Real of Mogador, as well as two defensive structures. Immerse yourself in the Mellah, the Jewish District, which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While strolling through its streets, listen to captivating tales of Essaouira’s Jewish communities and admire the captivating door paintings and intricately carved emblems that reflect the depth of their cultural heritage. Take a leisurely walk along the shoreline, bask in the warm sunshine, and catch glimpses of skillful surfers riding the waves in the brisk wind.
Day 12: Essaouira, Morocco to Casablanca, Morocco
Enjoy a comfortable and private transfer from Essaouira to your accommodation in Casablanca or to the airport, with an estimated travel time of around four and a half hours. You have the freedom to adjust your departure time based on your preferences. You can choose to leave a little later and savor the morning in Essaouira or decide on an early departure to allow for extra time in Casablanca. The decision is completely up to you!
