For serious mountain bikers: wide open landscapes, breathtaking vistas!
The foothills of the Altai Mountains in Western Mongolia, with their wide open landscape, breathtaking vistas of the snow capped high peaks, dry weather with pleasant, moderate temperatures during the late spring and summer months, are an ideal terrain for serious mountain bikers!
We will bike about 55 km to 75km per day, depending upon the terrain. We’ll sleep in our own tent camps. The tour will be guided by local professionals who not only know the terrain, but are skilled mountain bikers, mechanics as well as gracious hosts.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
You will be met at Ulaanbataar airport by one of our representatives , and, after checking in at your hotel, we will take you on a sightseeing tour. ( Hotel)
Day 2: Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to Uvs, Mongolia
Accompanied by your guide, take a 2 hours flight to Ulaangom, the capital of Uvs province. This province features a spectacular combination of desert, snow capped peaks and alpine lakes. It is home to a number of ethnic tribes of Durved, Bayad, Kazakh and Hoton. The largest Mongolian lake of Uvs is located here, covering a territory of 3350 sq. km. Upon landing in Ulaangom meet with the team of drivers and cooks and transfer to Boodog Pass, the starting point of cycling. (2 hours). Here we set up a tented camp, and cooks will serve your first dinner in the wild. This evening the bike mechanic will help you assemble and prepare the bikes. (Tent/B,L,D)
Day 3: Uvs, Mongolia to Uureg Lake, Mongolia
Acclimatization bike to Uureg Lake. (Tent/B,L,D) 55km
Day 4: Uureg Lake, Mongolia to Achit Lake, Mongolia
Bike to Achit Lake. (Tent/B,L,D) 65km
Day 5: Achit Lake, Mongolia
Bike to Blue Lake. (Tent/B,L,D) 75km
Day 6: Achit Lake, Mongolia to Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, Mongolia
Bike to Sogoot Mountain. (Tent/B,L,D) 65km
Day 7: Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, Mongolia to Altai Tavan Bogd, Mongolia
Bike to Oigor River, (Tent/B,L,D) 70km
Day 8: Altai Tavan Bogd, Mongolia to Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, Mongolia
Bike to Altai Tavan Bogd base camp. In the afternoon we will trek to Russian & Mongolian border zone. (Tent B,L,D) 17 km
Day 9: Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, Mongolia to Potanin Glacier, Mongolia
In the morning we will do short hike on Potanin glacier. In the afternoon we will bike to Tsagaan gol river valley.(Tent B,L,D) 20 km
Day 10: White River, Mongolia to Khushuut, Mongolia
Bike to near Tsengel village 90 km, (Tent B,L,D) 90 km
Day 11: Khushuut, Mongolia to Ulgii, Mongolia
Load bikes and drive (3 hours) to the town of Ulgii. We sleep in Kazakh Ger or in our own Guesthouse, both fully equipped with showers and bathrooms. Meals will be served by the local restaurant. In the afternoon take an optional visit to the town. A museum of Kazakh traditions, local bazaar and Mosque are the main attractions. (Hotel or Ger/B,L,D)
Day 12: Ulgii, Mongolia to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
Return flight to Ulaanbaatar. Upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel. After hot showers and some rest we all gather for a farewell dinner. (Hotel/B,D)
Day 13: Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
Departure transfer. You will be transferred to the airport for your journey home.(B)
