Day 3: Road Sagsai, Ölgii, Mongolia to Altai Mountains, Mongolia

Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, Bayan Olgii: the highlight of Western Mongolia. Today drive to Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. Driving day for 6hours.Dusting road. Camping next to White Milky river. Stunning Altai Tavan Bogd National Park follows Western Mongolia's border with China and Russia, and is the greatest attraction in Western Mongolia. The Park really does have it all: beautiful valleys, alpine lakes, rivers, glaciers, and the highest peaks in Mongolia. This natural richness gives rise to a host of activities; most visitors will do some hiking or horse riding, but there are fantastic opportunities for the better equipped or ogranised to try fishing, climbing, rafting, or back country skiing. To top it all off, travelers can experience the amazing Kazakh culture and see archeological sights such as petroglyphs and burial mounds. With all these attractions, you would think the place would be crawling with tourists. Fortunately, Altai Tavan Bogd Park is still blessedly peaceful and unvisited; even in peak tourist season, traveling the most popular areas, you'll only see other tourists every few days or so. Day 4: Altai Mountains, Mongolia to Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, Mongolia

Altai-Tavan- Bogd national park Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, “the five sacred mounts of Altai”, extends on 662 square kilometres at the extreme southwest of Mongolia, and has borders with China and Russia. Khuiten Mount is the highest peak of the range and also of Mongolia, with its altitude of 4374 metres (2,72 miles). It was climbed up for the first time by a Mongolian expedition in 1956. Wonderfull view of Potanin Glacier. Altain Tavan Bogd is a high mountains area where we can find many glaciers. 96 % of the glacial rivers of Mongolia are located in the Altai Tavan Bogd. The most accessible glacier is Potanine, that we can climb up after a trek in the park. Climbing is not technical, but physical. The persons who are very keen on alpinism will also be very glad to climb up Malchin Mount, “breeder’s mount” (4037 metres, 2,51 miles), Nairamdal Mount, “friendship’s mount” (4082 metres, 2,54 miles), and Khuiten Mount, ”cold mount” (4374 metres, 2,72 miles). The two other summits that compose the Tavan Bogd are Burged (4068 metres, 2,53 miles) and Ölgii (4050 mètres, 2,51 miles).

Day 6: Altai Mountains, Mongolia to Khoton Lake, Mongolia

Today is back hiking day to south ranger station.16km. On Ranger station is our car. Today drive to Hoton and Khurgan lakes.Driving day 200km.Dust road. Western Mongolia Khoton and Khurgan lakes are twins. Khurgan-Khoton Lake is located in an intermontane tectonic depression in the northern portion of the Mongolian Altai. Its Surface area is 50.1 km2; the average depth is 26.6 m; the maximum depth is approximately 58 m. Hoton nuur has one Iceland which is covered by woods. The system of Khoton Nuur and Hurgan Nuur lakes, connected by a wide channel, is the source of the Hovd River which drains the whole Mongolian Altai. Lake Khoton Nuur was formed by glacial blockages. Kurgan nuur is the lowest point of Altai Tavan Bogd National park. Some fishes are in lake Koton and lake Khurgan nuur. Day 7: Khoton Lake, Mongolia to Hoton Nuur, Mongolia

Today hiking day to Baga Turgen Waterfall. There are only handful places in Mongolia’s territory that truly is untouched and pristine. One of those places is Baga Turgen waterfall. Baga Turgen waterfall is a unique natural site located in Tsengel soum, Bayan-Ulgii province which is the westernmost region of Mongolia. It is also located along with Khanas national reserve site in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. The origin of the word "Khanas" is “Khaan Us” which means “King water”. It is recorded in historical sources that the Russian kings and nobles ordered Mongol Khadrang, a native fish of the Baga Turgen River, and used it for food. Amazing view of valley. The waterfall stands at 26 m tall, making it the tallest waterfall in the general Bayan-Ulgii area. The waterfall is said to have multiple levels (higher and lower levels). Day 8: Khoton Lake, Mongolia

Later images show the transition to herding as the dominant way of life. The most recent images show the transition to a horse-dependent nomadic lifestyle during the early 1st millennium BC, the Scythian period and the later Turkic period (7th and 8th centuries AD). Day 10: Bayan-Ölgii, Mongolia

Today drive to Bayan Olgii small City. Joining local Naadam festival. Naadam is the most famous, interesting festival and national holiday of Mongolia attracts worldwide attention. Origin of the festival dates back to the great warriors’ period or great Genghis Khaan’s period of the 13th century. Naadam means “Festival or feast of sports”. As well as, the festival is locally termed “Eriin Gurvan Naadam” means “Three manly sports”. Wrestling Mongolian sport. The three sports are: Horse racing, wrestling and archery. Ancient times, the Mongolian great kings and military generals used to train their warriors and the warriors’ main battle tool horses while competing and feasting those three manly traditional sports have been generating for centuries and being enriched by more traditional sports and games. During the festival, Mongolians dress in colourful and distinctive traditional clothes and ride their most beautiful horses. Official festival celebration takes place through the country between 11 and 13th July annually. Particularly, the Naadam celebration in Ulaanbaatar, a capital of Mongolia is the most marvellous and involves wider range. There are 21 provinces and their 333 soums (small administrative divisions) in Mongolia celebrate their own festivals.
