Begin in northern Morocco in Tangier, travel your way to the blue-painted town of Chefchaouen, discover the ruins and wander the medinas of Fes, admire the architectures in the city center of Rabat, and finish in the commercial capital of Casablanca with a trip to the breathtaking Hassan II Mosque. Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Tangier, Morocco to Chefchaouen, Morocco
Welcome to Tangier, the gateway bridging Europe and Africa. If time permits, you have the option to explore the city or proceed directly to Chefchaouen, where you will spend the night. Upon your arrival in the enchanting blue city and after checking in at your accommodation, you will have the opportunity to relax or venture out to discover the captivating blue streets of the town. For those seeking a slightly more active experience, you can follow the street eastward, passing by the Ras el Ma Spring and ascending the pathway (approximately 20-30 minutes) until you reach the picturesque white Spanish Mosque. From here, you can savor one final panoramic view of Chefchaouen as the sun gracefully sets behind the fabulous mountains.
Day 2: Volubilis, Meknes, Morocco to Fes, Morocco
After enjoying a delightful breakfast, you will embark on a fascinating journey to the archaeological site of Volubilis. As you wander through the remnants of this ancient Roman city, adorned with vibrant mosaics, you will gain a glimpse into the daily life of the neighborhood that existed centuries ago. These remarkably preserved ruins have rightfully earned their place as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Continuing your drive, you will reach the imperial city of Meknes, characterized by its towering ramparts and grand gates. Among them, Bab Mansour stands as one of the most impressive gateways in all of Morocco. You will have the opportunity to explore further and make a stop at Sahrij Swani, a beautiful pool, as well as the city’s granary, which once served as a storage facility for food and water. Additionally, you will have the chance to visit the mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, the longest-reigning sultan of Morocco. It is worth noting that this mausoleum welcomes visitors regardless of their religious. As the day draws to a close, you will arrive in Fes, where you will spend the night. Prepare to immerse yourself in the charm and allure of Fes, where a multitude of wonders await your discovery.
Day 3: Fes, Morocco
The medieval medina of Fes holds a prominent place in Morocco’s craftsmanship, where traditional methods dating back centuries are still employed today. After enjoying a hearty breakfast, you will be introduced to our knowledgeable local guide, who will accompany you on a captivating tour. The journey begins with a visit to the King’s Palace, followed by a scenic drive to the Southern Tower, the highest point in the city, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the Old Medina. Next, you will have the opportunity to explore a clay cooperative workshop, where skilled artisans will showcase their expertise in handcrafting Moroccan mosaics and pottery. This marks the end of our driving tour, as we transition to a fascinating walking tour, commencing with three historically significant monuments. The first stop is Al-Qarawiyyin University, established in the 8th century by Fatima Al-Fihri and recognized as the oldest university in the world. Continuing on, you will marvel at the architectural splendor of Madrassa Bou Inania, constructed by Sultan Bou Inan in the 1350s. This theological college stands out for its intricate brass entrance doors and a captivating interior courtyard adorned with magnificent zellige tile work. To further enrich your experience, you will visit the Moulay Idriss 2nd Mausoleum, featuring exquisite cedar-wood doors and a vestibule adorned with intricate decorations. As the day progresses, you will have the opportunity to explore the leather tannery district of Fes, where local leather experts skillfully treat goat, camel, and cow hides in stone vessels filled with an array of vibrant dyes. Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of Fes as you delve into its craftsmanship, historical landmarks, and traditional practices. This day promises to be a captivating journey through the heart and soul of the city.
Day 4: Fes, Morocco to Rabat, Morocco
Proceed towards the western direction to reach Rabat, an imperial city that also serves as the present-day capital of Morocco. This vibrant city is replete with numerous attractions and boasts a rich historical background. Upon your arrival in Rabat, embark on a captivating exploration of the Chellah Necropolis, a medieval fortification nestled in the heart of the city. Wander amidst the ruins that bear witness to both Roman and Islamic civilizations, allowing yourself to immerse in their intriguing history. Next, make your way to the Kasbah des Oudaias, the original city center of Rabat. Enter through its majestic gate and find yourself meandering through serene streets adorned with beautiful white and blue architecture. Continue your journey by visiting the Hassan Tower, an iconic minaret that belongs to an unfinished mosque. and also visit the mausoleum of Mohamed V. Marvel at the architectural grandeur of this structure and appreciate its historical significance. As the day draws to a close, you will be transported to your accommodation.
Day 5: Rabat, Morocco to Casablanca, Morocco
Proceed along the coastal route towards the modern city of Casablanca. One of the main highlights of Casablanca is the magnificent Hassan II Mosque, a marvel of modern architecture. This impressive mosque, inaugurated in 1993, is situated on a promontory that extends into the Atlantic Ocean, offering breathtaking panoramic views. Its minaret stands tall at a height of 690 feet (210 meters), making it the tallest structure in Morocco and the world’s tallest minaret. What sets this mosque apart is that it welcomes non-Muslims, allowing them to explore its beauty. Take part in a morning or evening tour, and be captivated by the exquisite craftsmanship, including intricately carved stone and wood, elaborate marble floor designs, and ornate gilded ceilings. If time permits, you may want to enjoy a drink and a delicious meal at Rick’s Café, a renowned restaurant, bar, and café that recreates the ambiance of the iconic bar from the classic movie, Casablanca.
