About this tour

The ruins of Ancient Penjikent are a unique archaeological monument of the V-VIII centuries in Tajikistan, which scientists call "Pompeii of Central Asia" because of the stunning preservation of its buildings and wall paintings. The settlement is located on the outskirts of the modern city of Penjikent in the Sogd region, in the valley of the Zeravshan River. It was one of the richest and most fortified cities of ancient Sogdiana, standing on the Great Silk Road.
