Sand Dune And Central Mongolia Tour
About this tour
This is short, but the most experiential tour to discover remnants of ancient city Kharakhorum, visit a beautiful and over 400 years-old monastery Erdenezuu in the Orkhon River Valley Cultural Heritage Site.
Also we visit and stay with a nomad family. Tasting local food made by locals. The nomad family we visit moves around and live in an area called Elsentasarkhai, known as the mini Gobi or the most northern edge of the Gobi desert. Riding camels in the fenceless nature with views of sand dunes, mountains, and grasslands are other highlights of tour.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to Elsen Tasarkhai (Sand Dune Mini Gobi), Högönö-Taranaiin-Hüree, Mongolia
Meet with your guide and driver and start the adventure driving on the paved roads of central Mongolian hilly steppes and through dome-shaped mountain valleys. Drive to Elsentasarkhai, known as the northern edge of the Gobi desert. Visit a nomad family, experience nomadic life, try local food, ride camels on the steppes. Stay in nomad family's ger camp.
Day 2: Elsen Tasarkhai (Sand Dune Mini Gobi), Högönö-Taranaiin-Hüree, Mongolia to Erdene Zuu Monastery, Kharkhorin, Mongolia
Drive to the Kharkhorin, a modern villege built on a site of the ancient city Kharakhorum in the broad valley of the Orkhon River. Visit the Kharakhorum Museum display items of ancient city Kharakhorum, Visit the Erdenezuu Monastery and see some valuable religious items, monks’ chanting, and view its stunning architecture. Erdenezuu is the largest, the first and the most beautiful monastery in Mongolia.
Day 3: Kharkhorin, Mongolia to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
Drive and hike up a hill to Monument of Antient Empire of Mongolia and special stone. We also see how vast the Orkhon River Valley is and view of the Erdenezuu monastery from the hilltop.
