We will start our day trip from Yerevan and drive south toward the Ararat region. Our first stop is the historic Khor Virap Monastery, located right at the foot of Mount Ararat. Here, you will experience the closest and most breathtaking view of the biblical mountain and learn about the origins of Christianity in Armenia. Next, we will travel deeper into the scenic mountains of Vayots Dzor to Areni village, the cradle of Armenian winemaking. We will visit a local winery to taste traditional wines made from the unique native Areni grape, and explore the nearby Areni-1 Cave, where the world's oldest winery and leather shoe (over 6,000 years old) were discovered. We will conclude our journey by driving through a spectacular narrow canyon of towering, fiery red cliffs. Hidden at the end of this canyon is the 13th-century Noravank Monastery, an architectural masterpiece famous for its unique two-story church and beautiful stone carvings, before we comfortably head back to Yerevan.
