Day 1: Ust-Kamenogorsk

According to several theories of anthropogenesis, mankind first emerged in Altai mountains and then spread around the globe. Altai mountains are mountainous area between Mongolia, Russia and Kazakhstan. From here many famous ancient nations derive, one of which was Scythians. What was found in this land about a half-century ago is Ak Bawur site. It is huge area designed like ancient temple in open air. Southern end of it is small cavern, whose walls are filled with ancient writings. Its age is estimated as 6 to 7 thousand years. It survived through so many years but during last decades, due to growing traffic of tourists and carbon dioxide that people breathe out, these symbols disappear little by little. I believe they can stay several decades more. This cavern served for astronomic observations. Northern end of it is organized like a place for making sacrifices and funeral rituals with big stone tables that have holes for canalizing blood of animals, the water spring points that in the day of the vernal equinox directs reflected sunlight to the Polar Star and to the North. Last summer something more was found in this place by archeologists, excavation continues. Nearby there are few pictures carved out in the stone. Western part of this huge area is named the Valley of the Dead and was used as a cemetery for centuries. Amazing feature of local people, when slaughtering a cattle they keep its head oriented to the West. Just a coincidence or connection to our distant ancestors? The aura of this place is beautiful, very calm. Many women come here to improve their fertility, one of stones name The Throne is belived to help them. Believe it or not, one of my friends was pregnat after visiting this place. By the way, my seatic nerve stopped bothering me after sitting upon this Throne.
