Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan to Karkara, Kyrgyzstan
In the morning we depart from Bishkek city towards Karkyra valley which is located in the eastern part of Kyrgyzstan in the picturesque natural boundary Char Kuduk close to the border with Kazakhstan. Arrival to the yurt camp Karkyra, accommodation. Today we start to learn about nomads’ traditions on childbirth and childhood. Attend the ceremony of cutting the ropes “Tushoo Toy” representing a new chapter of the life of a child.
Day 2: Karkara, Kyrgyzstan
Spend a day in Karkyra! Attend the demonstration of nomadic games as “Toguz Korgool” and “Alchiki”. Full meal board is provided.
Day 3: Karkara, Kyrgyzstan to Bokonbayevo, Kyrgyzstan
In the morning departure to the southern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake. Arrival and accommodation at the yurt camp. En-route visit to Djeti Oguz gorge. In the afternoon we get to know the nomadic traditions related to the beginning of married life, learn about customs through interactive participation in Nike Toy (wedding), Kelin Aluu (moving of the bride to groom) and Chach Ooru (braiding of two plaits for the bride).
Day 4: Bokonbayevo, Kyrgyzstan to Tash-Rabat, Kyrgyzstan
After breakfast, departure to Tash-Rabat. Attend an eagle hunting demonstration and yurt producing. Visit to women cooperative to learn about the techniques of felt and shyrdak making.
Day 5: Tash Rabat, Kyrgyzstan to Song-Kul, Kyrgyzstan
Morning departure to one of the most picturesque places of Kyrgyzstan at the lake Son-Kul located in Tien Shan Range at the altitude of 3016m a.s.l. Today we will get acquainted with the principles of nomadism and feel a little nomadic ourselves. In the evening we will touch upon the topic of the sunset of life and learn what a real Kyrgyz “ash” is. Overnight stay in yurts.
Day 6: Song-Kul, Kyrgyzstan to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
Today we transfer back to Bishkek. This day we will touch upon the topic of commemoration of ancestors’ memory. En-route visit to the Burana Tower (old minaret) near Tokmok city. That minaret was constructed in Balasagun town, one of the capitals of Karakhanid State existed in 11-12 centuries AD. Explore ruins of that important trading point at the Great Silk Road and visit a little local museum telling about that civilization. Also watch a collection of Balbals shaped in interesting forms over there.
