Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Delhi Airport, New Delhi, India to Delhi, India
You will come to Delhi, the capital of India today, and you will be welcomed at the international airport during your arrival. You will also be provided with the necessary assistance at the time of your arrival and after that, you will be transferred to your hotel. Delhi is a city where you can glimpse the whole of India. Many beautiful kingdoms have left their mark in this beautiful city. Spend the rest of your time roaming around the surrounding areas in Delhi.
Day 2: Delhi, India to Shravasti, India
This morning you will be transferred to Delhi railway station from where you will take a train to Lucknow. On reaching Lucknow railway station you will be assisted and from here you will be transferred by road to a place called Sravasti. The grand Shwetambara temple is located in Sravasti where thousands of Jain devotees visit. Apart from this, Somnath temple is also located here, which is the birthplace of Sambhavnathji by doing Jain pilgrimage. Sravasti is a sacred place for the people of Jainism and here the memories of the last Jain Tirthankara Lord Mahavira are attached.
Day 3: Shravasti, India to Lumbini, Nepal
Today, in the morning you will travel through the beautiful countryside called Sahet & Mahet to a place called Lumbini. Lumbini is located in Nepal and is an important pilgrimage site. It was here that Lord Buddha was born. The main attraction here is the Maya Devi Temple, which is named after the mother of Lord Buddha. A holy pond is situated here to which memories of Lord Mercury are attached. This temple was discovered by a German archaeologist in 1895.
Day 4: Lumbini, Nepal to Kushinagar, India
Today you will visit Kushinagar which is an important place for Buddhist pilgrims. Lord Buddha died at this place, so it has great religious significance. There is a place called Rambhar near here where Lord Buddha was cremated. This place is also important for the devotees of Jainism as the memories of Lord Jain Tirthankara Mahavir are also associated here. There are ancient construction temples and stupas in Rambhar which were constructed by Kumaragupta I during his reign between 413 AD to 455 AD.
Day 5: Kushinagar, India to Patna, India
Today you will travel to Patna, the capital of Bihar, and visit the famous Buddhist pilgrimage site called Vaishali. Vaishali was a simple village later excavated to discover the rich culture and historical heritage. Vaishali was the first democratic institution in the world that developed during the sixth century BC. Lord Mahavira, the founder of Jainism was born at this holy place. Along with this, Vaishali is also the place where Lord Buddha declared Nirvana. This place is one of the 8 significant events of Mother Buddha. In that event, a monkey offered honey to Lord Buddha.
Day 6: Patna, India to Bodh Gaya, India
Today morning you will start the journey to Bodh Gaya and stop at two major sightseeing places on the way. First, you will visit the ancient ruins of Nalanda University. It is the oldest university in the world where students from the country and abroad came to study in the sixth century BC. In 1193 Bakhtiar Khilji, a ruler of Turkey destroyed this university by setting it on fire due to jealousy. The ruins of 8 monasteries and temples made of red stones are still preserved here. After this, you will visit a religious place called Rajagiri which has great importance for Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. There are many religious caves here. Finally, you will reach Bodhgaya and check-in at the hotel. An ancient banyan tree is located in Bodh Gaya under which Lord Gautama Buddha attained supreme knowledge.
Day 7: Bodh Gaya, India to Varanasi, India
This morning you will visit the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya and see the beautiful architectural carvings etc. of this temple. Here you will also visit the Mahabodhi tree under which Lord Buddha attained supreme knowledge by doing penance. After this, you will travel through many rural areas to the city of Varanasi. Varanasi is one of the oldest cities in India and is a major pilgrimage center for Hinduism.
Day 8: Varanasi, India to Agra, India
Waking up early this morning, you will go for a boat ride in the River Ganges. Here you will see religious activities that take place in the morning. In the morning, devotees worship Ganga at the Ganges and take a holy dip by dipping it in water. Apart from this, you will also visit many temples situated on the banks of river Ganges. In the afternoon you will visit a holy place called Sarnath, located a few kilometers from the city of Varanasi. Sarnath is the holy place where Lord Gautama Buddha preached his first dharma and here he established the wheel of law. Here you will see the Ashoka Pillar and will also visit the Sarnath Museum. In the evening you will be transferred to Agra railway station from where you will travel to Agra, taking a restful sleep in the train overnight.
Day 9: Agra, India
This morning you will arrive at Agra railway station where our representative will provide you with assistance. After that, you will go to see the beautiful view of the Taj Mahal. Taj Mahal is a beautiful composition made of marble, which is one of the seven wonders of the world. This tomb has a very beautiful carvings on marble. Apart from this, you will also go to visit the Red Fort located in Agra. This huge fort is built by red sandstone and has many palaces, gardens, Havelis, pavilions, etc. The most prominent structure here is the Jahangir Mahal which was built by Emperor Akbar for his Hindu queen Jodha Bai.
Day 10: Agra, India to Delhi Airport, New Delhi, India
This morning you will travel from Agra to Delhi and spend half-day sightseeing in Delhi. In this tour, you will visit the Qutub Minar in New Delhi and the Tomb of Humayun. Apart from this, beautiful buildings like India Gate Rashtrapati Bhavan and Parliament House will see drive-thru. Later you will be transferred to Delhi International Airport from where you will take a flight to return home. This is where the religious journey associated with Buddhism ends.
