Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Khiva, Uzbekistan to Aral Sea Reserved, Uzbekistan
Start from Khiva early morning 6:00 08:30 chilpik kala 09:30 Early departure from Nukus. 11:30 Arrival in Muynak. Visit to the Ship Graveyard, Muynak State Local History Museum, and watching a video about the history of the once-thriving Muynak. 13:00 Lunch at the Guest House. 14:00 Continuation of the excursion. The road follows the bottom of the receded Aral Sea to the Ustyurt Plateau. 16:00 Overview of the impressive canyons of Ustyurt, a cosmic landscape. Stop at the ancient graves of nomads. 17:00 Arrival at the Aral Sea. Stroll along the seashore; guests can swim in the sea and collect seashells. 18:00 Arrival at the yurt camp on the shores of the Aral Sea. (Dinner and overnight stay in a traditional Karakalpak yurt). The camp has a shower with clean fresh water and a restroom. At night, you can observe millions of stars by listening to the sounds of nature.
Day 2: Aral Sea Reserved, Uzbekistan to Khiva, Uzbekistan
05:00-07:00 Do not miss the sunrise over the Aral Sea. It's a mesmerizing spectacle. Breakfast. 08:00 Departure for the return journey. 08:30 Visit to Kurgancha-kala (XII-XIV centuries), a fortified trading post on the Great Silk Road in the early medieval period. 10:30 Stop in the village of Kubla-Ustyurt – a small town built by the conquerors of Ustyurt during the Soviet era. 12:00 Excursion to the old lighthouse (a hill where a fire was lit to guide the way to the Urga settlement). Visit to the abandoned fishing village of Urga near Lake Sudochye (meaning Freshwater). This lake is a stop for many migratory birds such as pink flamingos, pelicans, ducks, geese, swans, etc. 13:30 Lunch at a local cafe in Kungurad. 16:00 Visit to the historical and sacred complex Mizdakhan (IV-II BC, XIII-XVI AD), a necropolis with several interesting mausoleums: Nazlumkhan Sulu, Khalifa Yerejep, Shamun Nabi, as well as Giaur-kala, a city from the Zoroastrian era (IV-III BC).
