About this tour

Altay Tavan Bogd Mountain is the highest snow-capped mountain with longest glacier named Potaniun in Mongolia and is located in western Bayan-Ulgii Province. It consists of five peaks, highest peak is Huiten Uul is about 4374m above sea level is requires professional mountain climbers and equipments. Malchin peak is 4050m above the sea level, only possible one climb without equipment. Altay Tavan Bogd national Park is spectacular place with the wild nature, sacred mountains, thousand years historical petro-glyphs, and a white river fed from the glacier and flowing for several kilometers. Surrounding the river live nomadic ethnic groups such as the Tuvan people who are famous for their throat singing, and Khazakh people who train Golden Eagles for hunting and hospitality to everyone.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

By your arrival in UB meet by our guide and transfer to hotel. Today we will do city site seeing tour. Explore Gandan Monestry, Buddhist center in UB., Zanabazar museum, and The Winter Palace. Dinner at restaurant. Overnight in hotel.

Day 2: Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to Bayan-Ölgii, Mongolia

By arrival in Bayan-Ulgii Province Airport you will meet with your guide,driver and cook. We will drive to Altay Tavan Bogd National Park via Tsagaan Gol (White River Valley). We will drive between the high Altay Mountains and spectacular view around you. On the way, we stop for lunch just by the river and keep our driving. We able to see the Turcik ancient man stone. After driving about 6 hours we reach the camping place where is surrounded by Altay snowcapped mountain. Overnight in the tent.

Day 3: Bayan-Ölgii, Mongolia to Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, Mongolia

After breakfast we will trek to the base camp of the snow-capped Altay Tavan Bogd Mountain about 4-6 hours. The horseman will pack our stuff on the camel. We will pitch our tent next to the glacier. Overnight in the tent.

Day 4: Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, Mongolia

In the early morning after breakfast, we will start our hiking to the Malchin Peak, which is about 6 km from the base camp. We will hike about an hour and start our climbing by trail. The climbing will take us about 3-4 hours, go down from mountain will be 1-2 hours. You will have picturesque view from the top of the submit. The AltayTavan Bogd Mountain range stretches over Mongolia and Russia. We will come back to the base camp in the late afternoon and spend the night in the tent.

Day 5: Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, Mongolia to Malchin Peak, Mongolia

In the morning we will hike back about 4 hour to Tsagaan gol (White River Valley). We will pitch our tent next to the White River and be able to relax after our long hike. We can visit to Tuvan people to see their lifestyle and feel their hospitality. Overnight in tent.

Day 6: Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, Mongolia to Khoton Lake, Mongolia

After driving about 150 km we will reach the Hoton and Hurgan twin lakes where many Nomadic Kazakh families spend the summer. This beautiful place is bordered by a forested mountain which forms a wall between China and Mongolia. There is also a big waterfall on this mountain. We will drive north along Hoton Lake for about 12 km and reach Biluut Mountain. Here you can see many petro-glyphs. Pitch the tent and overnight next to the lake

Day 7: Khoton Lake, Mongolia to Baga turgen khurkheree, Mongolia

Early in morning having breakfast next to the lake and under the blue sky. After crossing the wooden bridge over the water channel between Hoton and Hurgan Lakes, we will drive to the Kazakh Eagle hunter family. The Kazakh people who live here are very kind and hospitable. They live in gers (yurts) which they make by hand. We will stop to visit with them and you will be introduced to their lifestyle and experience their hospitality. This place is the summer pasture for their livestock. Afternoon we will hike to waterfall between the forest area. During our hiking will follow the crystal clear river and get to the waterfall. You have chance to stand under the waterfall it makes you cool. Hiking back to the Eagle hunter’s family overnight in the yurt.

Day 8: Khoton Lake, Mongolia to Bayan-Ölgii, Mongolia

After breakfast you can get amazing shot of Golden Eagle hunter with his eagle and try the hold the eagle by yourself. we will drive back to Ulgii about 6hours. Once we are back in Ulgii, you will have a chance to travel in the city and do some shopping at the handcraft shops. Overnight in hotel.

Day 9: Bayan-Ölgii, Mongolia to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

Depart to Ulgii airport fly to UB.
