A Tsaatan Family in Khövsgöl
Deep in the forests of northern Mongolia, a Tsaatan family lives a unique life surrounded by nature. The Tsaatan people are famous for raising reindeer and living in traditional tents called urts.
Every morning, the family takes care of their reindeer, which provide milk, transportation, and companionship. Their life is simple but beautiful. They move from place to place with their animals and live far away from busy cities.

Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to Khovsgol, Mongolia
Early morning departure from Ulaanbaatar and travel north towards Khövsgöl Province. Enjoy the changing landscapes of Mongolia. Overnight on the way.
Day 2: Murun, Mongolia to Khuvsgul Lake, Mongolia
Arrive at the beautiful Khövsgöl Lake, known as the “Blue Pearl of Mongolia.” Relax by the lakeshore and enjoy the surrounding mountains and forests.
Day 3: Khuvsgul Lake, Mongolia to Jankhain Zam, Mongolia
Full day around the lake. Enjoy a boat trip, hiking, photography and the peaceful nature of Khövsgöl.
Day 4
Leave Khövsgöl Lake and travel towards the remote Darkhad Depression. The road becomes more adventurous as you enter the wild northern landscapes.
Day 5: Darkhad Valley, Mongolia
Explore the beautiful valleys, rivers, forests and mountains. Meet local nomadic families and experience their traditional lifestyle.
Day 6
Travel deeper into the wilderness towards the Western Taiga. This is a remote region with forests, mountains and very few roads
Day 7
Continue into the taiga and reach a traditional Tsaatan reindeer-herding family. Meet the family and see their reindeer and traditional way of life.
Day 8
Continue into the taiga and reach a traditional Tsaatan reindeer-herding family. Meet the family and see their reindeer and traditional way of life.
Day 9
Say goodbye to the Tsaatan family and begin the journey back through the Western Taiga.
Day 10
Travel back through the spectacular landscapes of the taiga and Darkhad Depression. Overnight in a local ger camp and Nomadic style and Sum life
Day 11
Return to Khövsgöl Lake and enjoy a relaxing evening beside the water after the remote wilderness adventure.

What's included
Visiting a Tsaatan family is, of course, a long journey; it can involve a horseback ride of ten kilometers or even more. However, since nomadic families in the Mongolian countryside frequently move, the distance could also be shorter. They typically camp high up on mountain peaks, and this journey can be undertaken in any season—winter or summer—though it gets extremely cold in winter (dropping to around -40°C). In return for braving the cold, however, you will experience a truly beautiful and unique world.
Personal items are not included, and travelers must arrange their own insurance (insurance can be purchased in Mongolia). Expenses not specified in the itinerary are to be covered at one's own expense.

Since the weather is quite cold, you should bring your warmest clothing and footwear and be prepared to adapt to the chilly conditions; this is truly a trip for genuine adventurers—one where you should be eager to experience unique activities like riding horses up into the mountains or traveling 10 kilometers on reindeer-back.
