Worli Fishing Village Tour

Day 1: Mumbai

This tour takes you to the bustling Worli fishing village, where the old ways of life still continue. Mumbai – or Heptanesia, as the Greeks called it, used to be made up of seven separate isles. Worli was one of these original islands, inhabited by the Kolis, a community of fisherfolk. The Kolis are said to have first occupied the land around 1100 AD. In fact, the name Mumbai is derived from Goddess Mumba, the patron deity of the Kolis. On this tour, you can watch the morning catch come in, walk through the markets, and understand the daily life and rituals of the Kolis. The Worli Fort, built by the British in 1675, stands as a reminder of dashing tales of piracy on the Western Coast.
