Turkmenistan:
Darwaza
Going to Turkmenistan, you must visit the Darwaza gas crater! It is widely known
as the “Gates of Hell”! This is an incredible sight when flames burst out of
the bowels of the earth!
But how did this miracle appear, which is considered one of the most popular
places not only in Turkmenistan but throughout the world? In 1971 near the
village of Darwaz, Soviet geologists discovered an accumulation of underground
gas. As a result of drilling an exploration well, geologists stumbled upon an
underground cavern, due to which the earth collapsed and a huge hole filled
with gas was formed, which to this day burns with a flame and no one can put it
out.
If you want to get the most out of your trip to the gas crater, we recommend
spending the night in the desert in a tent camp with a kebab dinner! The best
seasons for the tents are at May, June, September and October. In other months
you can just drive 270 km from Ashgabat for dinner at wild nature near the
flames and come back to the capital.
I will be glad to offer a tour of Turkmenistan for you!
