Kov-Ata is an underground lake with sulfuric water and healing properties. The lake is located not far from Ashgabat, just 60 km to the west in the famous Bakharden cave.
Its name is translated as “father of caves” (“kov” - cave, “ata” - father). In order to get to the lake you need to go down into the cave and overcome the steep stairs with a flashlight because it is very dark inside. Going down to a depth of 60 meters, you will see only a small part of Kov-Ata Lake. The depth of the lake ranges from 8 to 14 meters. The water here is very warm (34-37 degrees), slightly cloudy with a blue-green tint. It is important to note that it is strictly forbidden to swim in the lake, but there are some paid medical procedures that you can use.
The healing water of Kov-Ata Lake is rich in 38 elements including iodine, magnesium, iron, bromine, potassium, sodium, sulfate and others. It has been proven that the water of the lake helps to fight many diseases and even the deadly ones.
