Almaty is the
southern capital of Kazakhstan, a major city with the most historical monuments.
It offers lots of places to visit and entertain. Do not miss visiting the Panfilov
Park dedicated to 28 Guardsmen of 316 rifle division of Panfilov and Zenkov
Cathedral, one of the world’s highest wooden buildings. Kok Tobe mountain hill
with a TV tower offers a great panoramic view of the city with a background of
Tien Shan mountains. Green Bazaar is a vivid presentation of Asian crowd and
colorful bazaar with rows of fruits, vegetables, meat along with goods of
everyday life.
Medeu Gorge is
located 20 km south from Almaty in the gorge with the same name that has the
world’s largest alpine ice skating rank, with a huge dam protecting from
mudflows. There are few hiking options in the gorge to enjoy the slopes covered
with coniferous forests and snow-covered tops of the mountains.
Shymbulak resort
can be reached by a cable car from the Medeu gorge and is the largest ski
resort in Central Asia that hosts many international championships and used to
be one of the most popular among former Soviet countries. Beginners and
experienced skiers can enjoy trails of different categories and spend amazing
holidays in ski hotels of the resort.
Falcon Farm
located at the foothill of Big Almatinka gorge called “Sunkar” hosts 400
endangered species of birds of prey. Kazakh people are one of the nations that
carefully keep the tradition of hunting with eagles and hawks. Here you can see a demonstration of hunting at 5pm.
Kolsai and
Kaindy lakes are part of nature reserves highly protected in Kazakhstan and for
a good reason. As they are not only lakes of astonishing beauty and charm, but
also they are home for hundreds of animals and plants all over their
territory. There are several trekking anв hiking options in this area with an overnight stay in Saty village nearby.
Charyn canyons
are the Central Asian version of America's Grand Canyons in no way inferior in
beauty. The Charyn National Park was founded for the purpose of preserving natural
and geological objects of Kazakhstan in 2004. It is inhabited by a number of
endangered animals and plants included in a red book. You can get lost
walking in its labyrinths and Valley of Castles.
The Tamgaly Tas,
or “stones with signs”, located 170 km from Almaty city on the Ili River
represent petroglyphs with amazing images of deities as well as late Buddhist
inscriptions. The most famous are the images of Buddha.
Altyn Emel
National Park created in 1996 in order to preserve unique archaeological and
historical monuments. Nowadays it is one of the largest parks in Kazakhstan with
an area of 4600 square kilometers. Visitors can enjoy views of amazing
landscapes producing mysterious sounds when winds blow.
Nur-Sultan as
the capital of Kazakhstan from 2008 has amazing architectural planning with
wonderful sites for visit. To get a panoramic view from Baiterek Tower is a
must-do when visiting it not talking about other interesting sites.
Borovoye is a
natural health resort close to Nur-Sultan and occupies a huge area of 85, 000
hectares. You will be amazed by its lakes and mountains with exceptional
beauty.
