Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Almaty, Kazakhstan to Altyn Emel National Park, Алматы, Kazakhstan

We begin our journey with a scenic drive to Basshi village, the gateway to the legendary Altyn Emel National Park, located in southeastern Kazakhstan. This quiet village offers a glimpse into rural Kazakh life and serves as the perfect starting point for exploring the region’s natural wonders. From there, we venture into Altyn Emel, a vast and protected area known for its surreal desert landscapes, rare wildlife, and archaeological treasures. One of the park’s most iconic sights is the Singing Dune — a massive sand dune that stretches nearly 150 meters high and 3 kilometers long. As you walk along its crest, the dune emits a deep, melodic rumble that sounds like a distant organ or aircraft — a natural phenomenon caused by the friction of dry sand grains. Surrounded by mountains and silence, the Singing Dune offers both mystery and serenity in the heart of the Kazakh steppe.

Day 2: Altyn Emel National Park, Алматы, Kazakhstan to Charyn Canyon National Park, Tamerlik, Kazakhstan

Charyn Canyon is one of Kazakhstan’s most awe-inspiring natural wonders, often compared to the Grand Canyon in the United States—though smaller in size, it’s equally rich in beauty and drama. Carved by the Charyn River over millions of years, the canyon stretches for about 154 kilometers, with cliffs reaching heights of up to 300 meters. One of the most famous sections is the Valley of Castles, named for its towering rock formations that resemble ancient fortresses. As you walk through the narrow pathways between these red sandstone giants, you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped into another world. The landscape constantly changes with the light, offering endless opportunities for photography. Whether you're hiking, marveling at the geological formations, or simply soaking in the silence of nature, Charyn Canyon is a highlight of any visit to southeastern Kazakhstan.

Day 3: Charyn Canyon National Park, Tamerlik, Kazakhstan to Kolsai Lakes National Park, Алматы, Kazakhstan

On the third day, we begin with a visit to the breathtaking Kolsay Lake, nestled in the Northern Tien Shan mountains and known for its serene alpine beauty and dense pine forests—ideal for a relaxing walk or optional horseback ride along the shore. We then continue to the enchanting Kaindy Lake, famous for its sunken forest and clear turquoise waters, where the trunks of submerged spruce trees rise eerily from beneath the surface, creating a surreal and magical landscape. After enjoying a lakeside picnic or local lunch, we make a scenic stop at the striking Black Canyon, known for its dark, dramatic rock formations and panoramic views. This day offers a perfect mix of peaceful nature, hidden wonders, and awe-inspiring scenery before we return to the city
