Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Aralsk, Kazakhstan
Day 1 (300km) Arrive in Aralsk by train or car. Visit of the small town. We visit the fishing museum and the regional museum without forgetting the small market. Night in a guest house or in a small hotel. Lunch in town.
Day 2: Aralsk, Kazakhstan to Aral Sea, Kazakhstan
Day 2 Breakfast. (Zhalanash, old and new Aqespe villages, hot thermal source) After breakfast, drive to Jalanash village, between Jalanash and Aral rolling over the former seabed. (approx. 50 km on seabed). Then continuation to hot thermal spring (+62°C all year round, swimming stop, if you want), we continue to drive along the North Aral Sea, visit of the last ship (only a small piece, bottom) along from the shore. Let's keep driving along the sea, on the way we stop on the Karassandyk hills (former coastline, eastern end of the Ustyrt plateau), beautiful rock formations and cliffs. Then; road to the old village of Aqespe. Aqespe was one of the largest fishing villages, but after the shrinking of the sea; the sand dunes are starting to bury the village, the inhabitants had to move and the village is abandoned now. We can walk among the buried streets of old town.
Day 3: Aralsk, Kazakhstan to Kamysty, Kazakhstan
After breakfast, we leave Aralsk towards Kamysty Lake. Drive about 2 hours. Bathing on the lake. Dinner. We continue our road to the dam of the Aral Sea. Walk by the dam. Return to the village and overnight in the village or near by the lake
Day 4: Bugan, Kazakhstan to Aralsk, Kazakhstan
After breakfast, departure from the village to Aralsk to board the train. Conversation with fishermen who witnessed those times when the Aral was big
