If you’re looking for an adventurous way to explore the Pamirs then the Bartang valley has all the makings of a true journey into the wilds of the Pamirs and Tajikistan. With some of the Pamir’s most pristine hospitality, premier trekking, and beautiful villages a trip up the Bartang Valley will not disappoint you. This trip will take you the "Sleeping Dragon" in the Pamirs mountain -the Sarez Lake which is one of the most beautiful lake in the whole Central Asia.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Dushanbe, Tajikistan to Dushanbe
Day 1: Arrive in Dushanbe & transfer to hotel. Relax & City tour. In the afternoon it is possible to visit the Hissar Fortress just 20km away from the capital.
Day 2: Dushanbe, Tajikistan to Kalaikhum, Tajikistan
Drive to Kalai-Khumb via Kulob. Overnight in guesthouse. On the way to Kalaikhum there few short stops-Nurek Dam, Hulbuk fortress and Kulob which is the lunch stop before continuing to Kalaikhum.
Day 3: Kalaikhum, Tajikistan to Bartang, Tajikistan
Drive & Trek to Jizeu valley. Overnight in tents or homestay. The trekking time is about 2 hours one side and goes along the beautiful Jizeu valley before one can really get to the village. This is a nice acclimatization opportunity before the Sarez Lake long trekking.
Day 4: Bartang, Tajikistan to Barchidev, Tajikistan
Drive to Barchidiv village and get prepare for the next day trekking to the Sarez lake. On the way to the Barchidiv village you will pass several beautiful villages along the Bartang river and enjoy the scenery and surroundings.
Day 5: Barchidev, Tajikistan to Sarez Lake, Tajikistan
Trekking to the Sarez Lake (luggage will be carried by donkeys, during 8-9 hours). There is a place for a lunch stop on the way to the lake just before the Usoy Dam starts.
Day 6: Sarez Lake, Tajikistan to Irkht, Tajikistan
Strolling around the Sarez lake. Relax and engage various activities such as fishing, riding boat, and visit the Soviet Meteorological Station 25km away from the Dam by boat. Overnight in a guesthouse at the Lake.
Day 7: Sarez Lake, Tajikistan to Barchidev, Tajikistan
In the morning hike back to Barchidiv and in the evening go for a walk in the beautiful village. There is an option for swimming in the clean and fresh water of the Sarez river near Barchidiv village.
Day 8: Barchidev, Tajikistan to Khorog, Tajikistan
Drive to Khorog & Relax. Overnight in hotel. There is an option of driving to the Khuf valley near Rushon before getting to Khorog.
Day 9: Khorog, Tajikistan to Chashmai Garmchashma, Tajikistan
Khorog town Tour (visit the 2nd highest Botanical Garden in the world, Khorog Park and the Ismaili Jamatkhana – prayer hall & cultural center). It is also possible to drive 45 km away from KHorog and visit the Garmchashma Hot Spring, take bath and back to KHorog.
Day 10: Chashmai Garmchashma, Tajikistan to Kalaikhum, Tajikistan
Drive to Qalai Khumb along the Panj River which divides Tajikistan & Afghanistan border. Visit to the Karon ancient archeological site. Overnight in guesthouse.
Day 11: Kalaikhum, Tajikistan to Dushanbe, Tajikistan
Drive to Dushanbe via the North Route which is more scenic (Sagirdasht and Khobu Robot Pass (3,300m). Overnight in a hotel.
Day 12: Dushanbe, Tajikistan to Dushanbe International Airport, Dushanbe, Tajikistan
Transfer to the airport & seeing off.
