Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Tashkent, Uzbekistan to Khujand, Tajikistan
Meeting at Uzbek – Tajik border “ Oybek” transfer to Khujand 70 km 1(hour) Drive to Khujand is the capital of northern Tajikistan and the second largest city in the country. Khujand, continuously occupied for 2500 years, was founded by Alexander the Great. The city became one of most important places in Central Asia. It was a key junction of the Silk Road. The beautiful city was razed by Gengiz Khan. Through history it remained a center of considerable power. Prior to the Russian invasion in the nineteenth century it was one of the main emirates in Central Asia. Khujand stands at the entrance to the fertile Fergana Valley. Owing to this it was one of the main centers of the Great Silk way and enjoyed prosperity and richness.. Night in hotel.
Day 2: Khujand, Tajikistan to Panjakent, Tajikistan
Khujand- Panjakent (Via Istaravshan) 280km (5 hours) Continue journey to the town of Istarafshan. There is a fascinating and well preserved old town whose maze of small alleys wind through neighbourhoods of mud-walled houses of a typically Central Asian design. Explore the town before moving on to Panjakent.
Day 3: Panjakent, Tajikistan to Samarkand, Uzbekistan
One of Tajikistan's historical highlights. See the ruler's fortified citadel, the Shakhristan (inner walled city), that contained two Zoroastrian temples, and the necropolis. A small museum shows reproductions of the beautiful frescoes found here, the originals of which are in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg. After lunch drive drive to the border and after border formalities to Samarkand
