About this tour
An exiting week visiting the most significant landmarks in South and Middle gobi, breathtaking views, landscapes. Nomadic lifestyle and wild animals, birds and plants. Horse, camel riding.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to Baga Gazariin Chuluu, Mongolia
We will head south and reach this unique rock formation in the Middle gobi province. It is a basalt and granite formation in the middle of a flat terrain good for hiking around: small caves, natural tiny wells, ruins of a 17th century Buddhist monastery and so on. Stay overnight in a hotel in the province center nearby
Day 2: Baga Gazariin Chuluu, Mongolia to Flaming Cliffs, Mongolia
We will head further south and reach the famous red clay formation where Roy Chapman Andrews found the dino fossils and named the place Flaming cliffs. The sunset over the place is beautiful. Hiking, visiting the Saxaul (the only tree in the gobi, looks more like a bush place Stargazing We stay in a tourist camp overnight.
Day 3: Flaming Cliffs, Mongolia to Hongorïn Els, Mongolia
We will drive along the north of the 'Three Gobi Beauties' mountain range, cross it at the Western edge and get to the Hongor Sand dunes. Blue sky, gray Sevrei mountain, yellow dunes, green grass of the oasis in front of the dunes -it is really a rear sight. Camel riding, climbing the dunes, photo sessions on the dunes. Overnight stay in the Tourist camp
Day 4: Hongorïn Els, Mongolia to Yolyn Am Valley, Баяндалай, Mongolia
We will drive along the south edge of the 'Three Beauties' mountain range and reach its eastern part where the Yol or vulture gorge is located. This is another unique place in Gobi which is quite different from a typical Gobi: a spring in the gorge, green slope covered by Juniper, might even be some ice not yet melted in the summer.
Day 5: Yolin Am Ice Field, Mongolia to Mandalgovi, Mongolia
Tsagaan suvraga or White stupa is our next landmark on the way back towards UB. This sedimentary formation is taller , bigger and somehow harder then the Flaming Cliffs because its not clay but limestone. We will stay overnight in Middlegobi province center, in a hotel.
Day 6: Mandalgovi, Mongolia to Terelj, Mongolia
Terelj is the closest National Park to UB or capital Ulaanbaatar, just about 60 km. There are many tourist camps and resorts, but we will stay in a nomadic family ger. Again horse, camel riding and small hiking can be done including visiting a small meditation temple in a very beautiful spot
Day 7: Terelj, Mongolia to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
In the morning after the breakfast we will leave the Terelj NP and visit the Chinggis Khan Monument, the biggest equestrian monument in Asia. There are nice surprises inside the Monument. After the visit we will head back to UB
