Welcome to a weeklong highlight tour that takes you to the stunning Altai mountains and its nomadic tribes. Begin your trip by visiting a herder family which lets you have the chance to observe the traditions and culture of the Kazakh people. Continue your trip further to get enchanted by the picturesque Dayan, Khurgan, and Khoton lakes. These idyllic spots offer picture-perfect views and a serene ambiance that will leave you breathless. But that's not all - prepare to be amazed by beautiful mountain scenery of the Altai and of course, no Altai tour is complete without a visit to the magnificent Tavan Bogd peaks. Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to Ulgii, Mongolia
FLY TO ULGII AND DRIVE TO EAGLE HUNTER FAMILY Take an early flight to Ulgii town. Then drive 4hour to a nomad herder family located near Altai Tavan Bogd NP. The family lives in the mountains and the man of the family is a falconer who owns a beautiful golden eagle. You will have the chance to see the eagle and experience the warm hospitality of the family. Overnight is in yurt or tent.
Day 2: Ulgii, Mongolia
DAY WITH THE NOMAD FAMILY In this most immersive and authentic experience day with the herders you can observe and participate their daily activities such as milking animals, preparing dairy and local food. In mountain fresh you will take the best sleep of yours so far in a Kazakh ger (yurt).
Day 3: Ulgii, Mongolia
DRIVE FURTHER INTO ALTAI MOUNTAINS Drive further into the Altai Mountains. Break at Dayan lake, one of the biggest freshwater lakes in the NP. Lunch by the lake. Enjoy your lunch and untouched nature. Drive toward the west to forested snow-capped mountains. Panoramic view of twin lakes (Khoton and Khurgan) of the NP. Camping by a stream. Enjoy the landscape. Day 4: Dayan Lake, Mongolia to Khoton Lake, Mongolia
WATERFALL, LAKE, ROCK CARVING EXPLORATION After breakfast drive to a nearby valley to see a attractive waterfall. Both the drive and hike are short but the charm of the valley is endless. Hiking back to the vehicle drive to the camp. Lunch. This is a great camping place for enjoying your time and nature around the lake by giving a break for long hour drives. There is a hill by the campsite where you will see Turkic time stone rock carvings. Enjoy your day by taking walks along the shores of the lovely lake. Take a dip in the lake and even go for fishing if have some interest. In short, enjoy and relax. Tent
Day 5: Khoton Lake, Mongolia to White River, Mongolia
DRIVE TO TAVAN BOGD MOUNTAINS Drive to Mongolia’s most attractive alpine mountains, Tava Bogd Mountains (6-7h drive). Stop at Tsagan Gol valley, the gateway to the Tavan Bogd Mountains. Enjoy the unforgettable stay at Tsagan Gol! The valley is resided by nomad Tuvan (ethnic group) people who spend their summer here. During the drive, you will see some ancient stone men and ancient burial mounds. Tent or yurt.
Day 6: White River, Mongolia to Potanin Glacier, Mongolia
GLACIER AND SNOW CAPPED PEAKS Go for a horseback hike to view majestic Tavan Bogd peaks and Potanin glacier. Return to the valley in the late afternoon. The rest of the day is at your disposal.
Day 7: White River, Mongolia to Ulgii, Mongolia
DRIVE BACK TO ULGII Drive back to Ulgii. Check in your hotel and throw yourself to the soft bed for good rest. Have dinner at a restaurant. Walk in the town center and visit souvenir shops for hand embroidered crafts.
Day 8: Ulgii, Mongolia to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
FLIGHT BACK TO ULN We will transfer you to the airport. Fly back to Ulaanbatar.
