Into The Frozen North: Khuvsgul Lake, Jargant River, Ar Bosgot Canyon, And Taiga

Into the Frozen North is a 5-night, 6-day winter escape to Northern Mongolia, a region known for its taiga, Khuvsgul Lake, and the Dukha (reindeer-herding) community.

This is one of the coldest parts of Mongolia, with temperatures sometimes reaching -40°C in winter. Winter changes this part of Mongolia completely. The rivers freeze, the valleys turn white, the mountains become even more dramatic, and everything becomes very quiet. It is cold, remote, and sometimes challenging, but that is also what makes the journey special.

The drive through Khuvsgul takes us across the wide Darkhad Valley and through the Khoridol Saridag Mountains. We will stop by the unfrozen Jargant River and visit Ar Bosgot Canyon before continuing through the northern villages of Ulaan-Uul and Renchinlkhumbe, and deeper into the taiga.

This is a trip for those who want to experience Northern Mongolia in its real winter, its wide valleys, frozen landscapes, mountains, rivers, villages and the quiet life of the far north.
