About this tour
The legendary Pamir Highway is also a very interesting jeep tour starting from Dushanbe to Dushanbe. This happens most of the days on the coast of the Panj River, which shares Tajikistan with Afghanistan. Also includes the Wahan Valley with beautiful nature, hot springs and historic fortresses overlooking the Hindikush mountains.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Dushanbe to Qalaikhumb
Arrival in Dushanbe. Drive to Khalaikum. On the way - a few stopovers to take pictures (beautiful landscapes). A visit at Kulab (mausoleum of Said Ali Chamadoni). A visit at Hulbuk (castle - museum). Picnic lunch at the bank of Amu-Daria river. Overnight in Khalaikum.
Day 2: Qalaikhumb to Khorugh
Further ride along Tajik-Afghan border and Panj river. We will cross Vanj valley and enter the region of Pamir (on the way - a few stopovers at small villages). Lunch in Chaikana. Overnight at traditional Pamir houses in Khorog.
Day 3: Khorugh
Sightseeing of Khorog: Regional Museum, Botanical Garden, City center. Overnight at traditional Pamir houses in Khorog.
Day 4: Khorugh to Ishqoshim
Drive towards Ishkoshim. On the way - a stopover by hot springs of Gharm-Chasma. Drive to the valley of Wakhan river. Picnic lunch. Overnight at a guesthouse in Ishkoshim.
Day 5: Ishqoshim to Viloyati Mukhtori Kŭhistoni Badakhshon
Early morning drive through passage of Wakhan to Langar. On the way - sightseeing: Fortress from III century BC, that is located on a high, rocky platform; the tomb of Shah-i-Mardan Hazrati Ali, Zoroastrian Fortress of Fire Devotees. A visit at hot springs of Bibi Fatima. A stopover in the village of Vrang (Bhuddist stupas and caves) and in the village of Yamg (Sufi mystic Mubarak Kadam Wakhani). Arrival in Langar and sightseeing of petroglyphs in the area of the village.
Day 6: Viloyati Mukhtori Kŭhistoni Badakhshon
Drive through Khargush pass, to lakes: Bulunkul and Yashinkul. A possibility to admire a geyser and early-Musilim mausoleum. Drive to the village of Nomads - Alichor. Overnight at traditional pastoral yurts.
Day 7: Viloyati Mukhtori Kŭhistoni Badakhshon
ALICHOR - KENG-SHIBER B/L/D Drive towards summer pastures of Keng-Shiber. A stopover near Akbalik lake and sightseeing of Chinese tomb in the village of Bashgumbes. Overnight at pastoral yurts.
Day 8: Viloyati Mukhtori Kŭhistoni Badakhshon
KENG-SHIBER B/L/D In the morning a 5-hours-long trekking through the valley of Belarik to Belarik pass. Picnic lunch. Way back. Overnight at pastoral yurts.
Day 9: Viloyati Mukhtori Kŭhistoni Badakhshon to Murghob
KENG-SHIBER - MURGAB B/L/D In the morning - transfer to Gartigumbez for a relaxation by hot springs. Afterwards - drive to Murgab. On the way - a stopover and sightseeing of rock paintings of Shakhty. Overnight in Murgab.
Day 10: Murghob
MURGAB B/L/D Sightseeing of Murgab: local bazaar, a visit at eco-center located in suburbs (yaks breeding, small museum). Lunch at a traditional tea drinking house - chaikhana. In the afternoon - relaxation by hot springs of Madian. Overnight in Murgab.
Day 11: Murghob to Viloyati Mukhtori Kŭhistoni Badakhshon
MURGAB - JILANDY B/L/D Drive through Koitezek pass to hot springs of Jilandy. Overnight at tents near Jilandy.
Day 12: Viloyati Mukhtori Kŭhistoni Badakhshon to Rushon
JILANDY - RUSHAN B/L/D Drive from Jilandy to Rushan.
Day 13: Rushon to Qalaikhumb
RUSHAN - KALAIKUMALONG B/L/D Drive from Rushan to Kalaikumalong - exploration of Pamir region. On the way - a few stopovers at local villages. Lunch at a traditional chaikhana. Overnight at homes of inhabitants of Kalaikumalong.
Day 14: Qalaikhumb to Dushanbe
KALAIKUMALONG - DUSHANBE B/L/D Drive to Dushanbe through Sagirdasht pass. Overnight in Dushanbe.
Day 15: Dushanbe
DUSHANBE B/L/- Drive to the village of Hissor, sightseeing: Fortress of Darvaza-i-Ark, two madrasahs, old caravanaserai. Lunch at chaikhana. Way back to Dushanbe. Sightseeing of the museum of musical instruments, Museum of Antiquity, National Museum. Overnight in Dushanbe.
Day 16: Dushanbe
