YOUR HOME-ISLAMABAD Upon arrival at Islamabad International Airport, I am Sherbaz Guide will meet and transferred to a comfortable, centrally located hotel. The remainder of the day is free for rest and recovery after your long flight to Pakistan. In the afternoon, for those who wish, there will be a guided tour of the capital city Islamabad and the bustling bazaars of Rawalpindi. Highlights include: Pakistan Monument and Lok Virsa Heritage Museum, showcasing the diverse cultures of Pakistan. Daman-e-Koh, a popular picnic spot offering panoramic views of Islamabad, including the Faisal Mosque, Parliament House, Prime Minister’s House, Supreme Court, and major business towers. A visit to the Faisal Mosque, a striking example of modern Islamic architecture. Drive along Murree Road, one of Rawalpindi’s busiest thoroughfares, before returning to the hotel for overnight stay
ISLAMABAD-KARAKORUAM HIGHWAY –BESHAM-DASSU-CHILAS. Approximate Distance: 392 km Driving Time: 13–14 hours After breakfast, we depart Islamabad, traveling first along the Grand Trunk Road before joining the Karakorum Highway (KKH) at Hasanabdal. The route passes through fruit groves of lychee, oranges, and tobacco, as well as small crop fields. We continue toward Abbottabad, a historic garrison city and popular hill station for escaping the summer heat. From here, the road winds upward to high plains and descends again to follow the mighty Indus River, flanked by the foothills of the Himalayas. The journey continues through frontier-like towns such as Besham and Dassu, before reaching Chilas, the gateway to Gilgit-Baltistan. Along the way, we will pause for rest breaks and refreshments. Driving Note: The journey from Islamabad to Chilas typically takes about 10 hours, though road and weather conditions may extend travel time. Overnight Stay: Hotel in Chilas.
CHILAS –MOUNTAINS JUNCITONM POINT -GILGIT-HUNZA VALLEY –DUIKER VIEW POINT. Approximate driving distanced is 4/5 hours 244km. Driving to Nagar and Hunza we stop at ancient rock carvings and the meeting point of the 3 highest and longest mountain ranges – Karakorum stretching to China, Himalaya crossing India/ Nepal and the Hindu Khush crossing Afghanistan and central Asia. Mighty of Indus and Gilgit river also confluence at this junction point. Enjoy local stops for delicacies and handicrafts before stopping at the collission point of continental plates and reaching Rakaposhi View point with views to Rakaposhi (Rakhaposhi Peak 7788 Meter High), The longest mountain in the world and in the Karakorum range. After tea with a view its onto the Hunza valley where everything comes with a view. We visit historic Altit Fort and stop at our hotel for the night with excellent views over the Hunza Valley and to The surrounding peaks.Stop at Rakaposhi for lunch and keep drive to Hunza valley through lower Nagar Hamlets and along the Hunza River.
HUNZA-ATTA ABAD –SUSPENSION BRIDGE -BORIT LAKE –PASSU GLACIER - PASSU VILLAGE. Approximate Distance: 60 km Driving Time: 3 hours Wake early to witness the sunrise over Diran Peak, with breathtaking views of Golden Peak, Rakaposhi, Ultar I & II, Lady Finger, and the sweeping Hunza and Nagar valleys. We drive through fruit orchards and fields being prepared for spring planting, then cross long tunnels leading to the turquoise waters of Attabad Lake. Here, we enjoy a boat ride to explore the lake, formed when a landslide blocked the Hunza River and submerged villages and farmland. Continuing onward, we stop at the famous Hussaini Suspension Bridge before reaching Borit Lake, where lunch is served beneath the looming Shispar Peak. From here, gaze down onto the white crevasses of the Passu Glacier. The journey passes the Ghulkin Glacier, which occasionally spills over the Karakorum Highway, and offers spectacular views of the Cathedral Peaks, the Hunza River, and its rounded river rocks. A short hike to the Passu Glacier completes the day before returning to the hotel for overnight stay.
PASSU TO KHUNJARAB PASS AND BACK TO GULMIT VALLEY : Approximate Distance: 150 km Driving Time: 6–7 hours After breakfast, we depart for the Khunjerab Pass, the highest paved international border crossing in the world. En route, we stop at the Batura Glacier viewpoint, with stunning panoramas of Passu Peak, Shispar Peak, and the mighty Batura Glacier—the fifth longest glacier outside the polar regions. Continuing our drive, we enter Khunjerab National Park, where wildlife such as mountain ibex, yaks, and marmots can often be seen. The road climbs steadily to an elevation of 4,694 meters, marking the border between Pakistan and China and connecting South Asia with Central Asia. Lunch is taken at Sost, the Pakistan–China immigration checkpoint. Afterward, we return to the Gulmit Valley for an overnight stay at the hotel. GULMIT TO NAGAR /HOPER –HUNZA : Approximate distanced is 65Km and driving 2 hours. In the morning we drive you to Nagar valley across the Hunza River. After 5 km drive we stop at the small junction point where confluence of Hunza and Nagar River is. Drive to Nagar Khas through passing beautiful orchard of Apricot, Apples and Cheery. This valley is offering a nice view for blossom and Autumn color too. Stop near the main Bazzar of Nagar to have a magnificent view of our backdrop Ultar Mountains and south west Golden peak and other impressive mountain photography. Keep continue drive to Hoper valley. Enjoy your time to meet local people observe their unique culture .Hoper valley is a lush green valley with surrounding high mountains and largest glaciers out of the polar regions. After lunch we little walk to the Hoper glacier and back to Hunza for Overnight stay.
HUNZA –KKH –BESHAM Approximate Distance: 335 km Driving Time: 12–13 hours After breakfast, we begin our outbound journey, driving along the Karakorum Highway (KKH) toward Besham Valley, following the course of the mighty Indus River. Lunch will be taken at Chilas before continuing the drive. En route, we stop for tea and toilet breaks while enjoying the dramatic scenery of the river and surrounding mountains. The Karakorum Highway, often called the “Eighth Wonder of the World”, was constructed jointly by Chinese and Pakistani engineers and laborers between 1966 and 1978. This monumental project carved a road through some of the world’s most rugged mountains, and many lives were lost during its construction. Before the KKH was built, the Babusar Pass served as the main link between Gilgit-Baltistan and the rest of Pakistan, originally opened during the British colonial period. By evening, we reach Besham, where we check into a hotel for an overnight stay.
BESHAM TO ISLAMABAD. Approximate Distance: 5–6 hours driving After breakfast, we depart Besham and begin the return journey to Islamabad. En route, we stop at Abbottabad for lunch at the well-known Usmania Restaurant. Continuing onward, we visit the Taxila Museum, a renowned center of the ancient Gandhara civilization. The origins of Taxila date back to around 1000 BCE, with ruins from the 6th century BCE. The site flourished under the Mauryan Empire, Indo-Greek rulers, and the Kushan Empire, making it one of South Asia’s most significant archaeological and cultural landmarks. Upon arrival in Islamabad, we visit the iconic Faisal Mosque, a masterpiece of modern Islamic architecture, followed by time in major shopping markets for souvenirs and local crafts. Dinner is enjoyed at a local restaurant before transferring to the airport, carrying with you wonderful memories of Pakistan’s colorful culture and majestic mountain landscapes.
