Basically, this trip shows us Mongolian nomadic incredible lifestyle and famous destination khuvsgul lake. 6 days trip to khuvsgul and central part is perfect duration to explore and enjoy the destinations. Normally we drive for 3-5 hours each day through wild nature surrounded by forestous mountains, rivers and looking by car window at domestic animals eating in the pasture with a great freedom of nomads, that looks dramatic and stay in a ger for guests of nomadic family or in a tourist camps. Khuvsgul is called as a blue pearl and Mongolian switzerland, it is really joy to travel by boat in summer. There are many camps to stay by lakeside. It is surrounded by forestous mountains, nice to hiking and horseriding
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Ulaanbaatar to kharkhorin
Day1. Kharkhorin.We start the trip from Capital Ulaanbaatar in the morning to our ancient capital “kharkhorum”. However now this city seems to be a typicall small town, but more than 800 years ago the city was originally constucted and it was the important centre of Euro-Asia which was connecting Europe and Asia with politic ,business, culture and trade. There we will visit some historical and religious museums about showing our incredible culture and also some historical memorials related to the 13th century. This day,on our journey we definitely pass through Mini gobi. This spot is great chance for travellers who have no time to visit great gobi of Mongolia. There is a small sandslope and gorgeous rocky mountains which is formated with granite stones, picturesque view and nomadic families who offer accomodation and cameriding for tourists. It is also good for hiking and photographing. We stay here overnight in tourist ger camp in kharkhorin.
Day 2: kharkhorin city to Terkhiin tsagaan lake
Day2.National park ‘’khorgo volcano & white lake’’Terkh’’ This day we drive to national park of khorgo volcano and white lake “terkhiin tsagaan nuur”. The destination is one of the most beautifull and famous place of Mongolian tourism. The volcanic errupted mountain with a big pot,lava, black burnt rocks, beautifull lake and forestous mountains are existing together show us incredible and unique combination of nature. There are many local nomads with domestic herding animals such as yaks,cows,horses ,sheep and goats, also they serve travellers with gers for guests. Obviously many ger camps work there during tourist season since end of May untill end of September. We enjoy the panoramic natural view such as volcano “khorgo’’ and beautifull lake “terkh” and some other natural views. It is really picturesque and amazing zone for hiking and horseriding.
Day 3: khorgo volcano & Terkh white lake national park to Shine ider town
Day3. Shine ider town. Next morning we head to the north khuvsgul lake, but from white lake”Terkh” to khuvsgul lake is 370km on unpaved road, we get through mostly mudy,bumpy, wild earth road , it is really hard to get there in one day, so we stay overnight in shine ider town hotel, but if weather is nice we drive to the northwest 18km to a tourist camp lakeside from the town.
Day 4: shine ider town to khuvsgul lake, Jankhai mountain pass
Day4. Khuvsgul lake. We will reach Khuvsgul lake. The lake is freshwatered,the deepest,the second big lake in Mongolia, provides 2% of fresh water in the world and lined with green forests and high mountains the long is 136km and the widest part is around 34km, the deepest is 245metres, rich of white fish. It is the famous place for tourism. In summer lakeside is very busy, travellers do hiking ,horseriding,fishing,boat traveling ,camping....and having a fun. It is called “Mongolian switzland” by tourists. We could extend our time considering your time and wish.
Day 5: Khuvsgul lake, Jankhai mountain pass to Uran togoo volcanic mountain
Day5. Urantogoo volcano.Basically, we are going to head to Ulaanbaatar , but today we visit “Urantogoo’’ volcano. This volcanic mountain was errupted more than 25.000 years ago, now it looks like a brown coloured mountain showing a shape of pot. It is located nearby main paved road to Ulaanbaatar.
Day 6: Urantogoo volcanic mountain to Ulaanbaatar
Day6. Ulaanbaatar. We will get back to Ulaanbaatar.
